A flat ribbon wound pressure vessel is made up of a thin inner shell, flat steel ribbon layers that are cross-helically wound outside the inner shell, a top cover and a bottom cover, etc. After the flat steel ribbon wound pressure vessels were first proposed by Professor Zhu in 1964, several thousands of such vessels are currently serving in industrial field, such as petroleum, chemical industry, etc. Many scholars have studied on mechanics characters of ribbon vessels. The design of the vessels has been protected by a letters patent of the People's Republic of China and adopted by ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Case 2229 under the rules of Section â…§. The ribbon vessels have lots of remarkable advantages and especially the property of "leak before burst at worst" compared with other pressure vessels. It is possible that the flat steel ribbon wound pressure vessels are subjected to blasts loading because of bigger inner pressure in the process of utilizing practically. So far, the dynamic response properties and failure mechanism of the flat ribbon wound pressure vessels have not been investigated thoroughly. Furthermore, some devices are needed to deal with volatile substances in public occasions, such as train stations, airports and post offices, etc, because of more and more frequent terroristic activities. Therefore, the excellent flat steel ribbon wound pressure vessels with smaller volumes and low costs are suitable for that type of vessels. Such a vessel is widely used in numbers of...
