The Development of the embedded system has entered the eras of 32 bit-machine. at the bottom half of PC era when the digital information technology and network technology is developing at a high speed, The embedded system has been already widely used in scientific research, transportation, engineering design, military technology, consumer product and daily life, etc.. The global positioning system (GPS) has brought a great influence on the human life and it is extremely high valuable on application. It has fundamentally solved the problems of navigation and orientation; it can meet demands of all kinds of users. At the same time, the development of the Automobile navigation equipment is required urgently when the intellectual traffic administration is appeared. The combination of embedded system and GPS will be widely used in the future and it is higher valuable on application.At first, this paper introduces the embedded system and GPS technology, and then introduces the development procedure of the embedded system and how to design embedded system on GPS carried system, The system includes hardware and the software; hardware includes power supply module, restoration module, clock module, Flash module, SDRAM module, JTAG module, Ethernet module, LCD module, serial communication module, IIS module, SD module and keyboard module. Software includes the transplant of embedded Linux operating system and the development of application programs, such as serial communication and electronic map.
