Shanxi Wanjiazhai Yellow River Diversion Project (YRDP) is a large inter-basin water transfer project in China running through the Haihe River and Yellow River Watersheds and covering a total length of 285km from Wanjiazhai Water Conservancy Pivot Project in Pianguan to Huyan Water Processing Center in Taiyuan, which is a national key project that will make up the water shortage in Shanxi province, stimulate the all-round development of the energy, heavy and chemical industries and develop the economy here. It is located in the North-West part of Shanxi Province and comprises five components, namely Wanjiazhai Dam, General Main (GM), South Main (SM), Connecting Works (CW) and North Main.Based on the vegetation alongside YRDP, the vegetation community types, community structure, ecological characteristics, and relationships between community species diversity and community types, habitats, community structure were analyzed by using different quantitative methods. Furthermore, the problem of ecological restoration and reestablishment here were studied.Firstly, two kinds of classification methods, Group average clustering analysis and TWINSPAN, were compared while vegetation ecological relationships in the region being analyzed, the vegetation were divided into 12 community types by Group average clustering analysis. And the result of classification was proved reasonably by using DCA ordination. The result of DCA ordination showed that different plant communities and their distributing area varied with the environmental change in the ordination graph where altitude had an increasing trend along the diagonal axis of DCA from left to right.The species diversity of vegetation alongside YRDP, Shanxi was studied by using richness indices, species diversity indices and evenness indices, respectively.
