The formation of the population of the allotetraploid hybrids of red crucian carp and common carp is the first case in the world which both the female and the male allotetraploids are fertile, they are the good materials for studying the biological characteristics of tetraploid animals. We made a lot of studies and exploration on the blood cells in allotetraploid hybrids, allotriploid crucian carp and diploid red crucian carp. The results were summarized as follows:(1) The blood indices including the number of erythrocyte, heamoglobin content, erythrocyte osmotic fragility, specific volume, normal size of the blood cells and fine structure of peripheral blood were compared among allotetraploid hybrids, allotriploid crucian carp and diploid red crucian carp. The results revealed that the number of erythrocyte, erythrocyte osmotic fragility, specific volume were increased gradually with the ploidy level decreasing, while there had no obvious differences in heamoglobin content. Furthermore the size of the erythrocyte and cell nucleus, monocyte, neutrophil in tetraploidy, triploidy, diploid fish had the proportion of 4: 3: 2. In the respect of erythrocyte morphology, 3 types of fish had evidently differences. The erythrocyte of allotetraploid hybrids appeared the long ellipse with the width being 0.59 of the length and 33% of the erythrocyte had the dumbbell nucleus. The erythrocyte of allotriploid crucian carp appeared ellipse with the width being 0.63 of the length and 25% of the erythrocyte had the dumbbell nucleus, whereas the erythrocyte of diploid red crucian carp tended to be round with the width being 0.74 of the length, but none of the erythrocyte with the dumbbell nucleus was found.(2) The fine structure and ultrastructure of peripheral blood in allotetraploid hybrids were studied by the light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that the peripheral...
