Area data is one of familiar geography data, and it has highly extensive application. Many studying focused on point data previously in the realm of geographic data model, while studying on area data is not attached sufficient importance to. It is scarce to studying on area data making use of spatial data mining tools, such as spatial cluster. This paper works on data area in detail taking regional social and economic districts data as an example. The contend in this paper mainly includes as follows:(1) Reviewing studying relative to spatial cluster in recent years, and summarizing data classification methods and index of traditional regional diversity analysis in common use.(2) Summarizing the analysis frame of social and economic area data, routine statistic and analysis methods (such as table and histogram analysis) and spatial data mining means (such as spatial cluster and mixing density distribution model) are integrated into this frame that is a method system of social and economic districts data based on graph pattern.(3) Analyzing area data using spatial cluster method without breaking spatial topological adjoining relationship in this paper. By comparing result of this method with spatial distance cluster method, a conclusion that the result of the former means may be irregular shape, and has adjoining relation in every class, while result of the latter has not these characters and inclines to spheroid, is drawed.(4) Graph of regional diversity bond unit type is achieved by primarily analyzing area data making use of concept of diversity bond, and regional break and chorolepth are obtained using break off diversity bond with no direction.
