The structure of breeding bird communities under the influence of artificial nest boxes in the secondary forest in Zuojia Nature Protective Area of Jilin Province was investigated preliminary during the period of March to July, 2004. The contents include: Specific composition and quantity variety of breeding birds in the secondary forest after hung the artificial nest boxes in different ways; the influence of vegetation structure on breeding bird community organization; the influence of artificial nest boxes on breeding bird community structure. The conclusions are as follows: 1.The total of 30 bird species belonging to 9 orders and 18 families are recorded in the secondary forest. The specific quantity is similar in 4 sample plots. The avian density is the largest in Sample B (Replace Sample Plot) and is the least in Sample A (Young Growth Sample Plot). The consume biomass of breeding birds is the highest in Sample C (Adding Artificial Nest Boxes Sample Plot) and is the lowest in Sample A. The important species of avian are Great Tit (Parus major) and Common Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) in the Sample A, B and C,and Great Tit is mutual dominant species. In the Sample D (Check Sample Plot), the number of important avian species is 8, thereinto included 6 dominant species, and don't have unimportance species in the plot. 2. The diversity index as well as the evenness index of avian community are the highest, and the dominance is the lowest in the Sample D. On the contrary, the diversity index and the evenness index are the lowest, and the dominance is the lowest in the Sample B. 3. In 4 sample plots, the values of similarity between each other all are higher, and there isn't obvious difference in them. 4.In all factors of vegetation structure characteristic, the average height of shrubs, the average canopy of trees and the average canopy of grass are difference factors in whole level, and the density of Black birch (Betula dnvurica) is difference factor in specific composition level. Mongolian oak (Quercus mongolica), Manchurian linden (Tilia mandshurica) and Black birch are common important species of trees in all sample plots. The average height of shrubs shows the conspicuous negative correlation with the cavity-nesting birds, and shows the conspicuous positive correlation with the shrub-nesting birds. The density of Manchurian linden and the tree-crown -nesting birds shows the conspicuous negative correlation. 5.The artificial nest boxes only shows the conspicuous positive correlation with the density of Great Tit, and doesn't show obvious influence on breeding bird community structure. At the after of this paper, the author analyzed and discussed the conclusions and shortage, besides gave some reasonable advice. The various artificial nest boxes still need in-depth study in these sides: in different types of sample plots, in different area of sample plots, being hung in different ways and density, subsequent influences, and so on. This paper was a preliminary study without being researched before. Although this study obtained some productions, nevertheless had some shortage. All these provided some suggestions for the farther studies.
