1) Comparative study on regulation sequences of rice (oryza saliva L.) and arabidopsisIn order to characterize regulatory region of oryza saliva ssp. indica andjaponica in genome-scale, we mapped and collected near 600 regulatory sequences which were further used for analysis of rice as-acting element(signal)'s amount, distribution and GC content, based on rice and arabidopsis genome and their full-length mKNA sequences under quality control. The results indicated that there were significant quantitative changes of cw-acting elements in rice regulatory region. A diverse signal usage between rice and arabidopsis were observed. Meanwhile the difference between different types of rice genes or rice specific and un-specific genes in signal usage were also recognized. Those different usages of signals resulted in fluctuation of GC content in regulatory region of genes. No significant difference in usage of m-acting elements and GC content between two rice subspecies (indica andjaponica) was found in this study.2) Study on transcriptional initiation frequency of plant genesTranscriptional initiation frequency of 17,437 genes from 7 plants were estimated based on data of UniGene database using bioinformatics method. The results indicated that average distance of transcriptional initiation of plant genes was 171bp (at mRNA level) or 174bp (at genomic DNA level) and distribution of their transcriptional initiation frequencies presented a normal distribution in general. A pipeline program, PIFMaker and a database, PIFdb (Potential transcriptional initiation frequency database) was developed in this study. The data of Release 2.0 of PIFdb database was used in this analysis.
