| The fifth-generation Pennsylvania State University-NCAR Mesoscale Model (MM5) was used to simulate the wind field of Qingdao coastal area in August. A detailed description and study of the characteristics of the three-dimensional wind is presented. In August, Qingdao is controlled by the western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH), southerly flow is the prevailing wind. The simulation showed that there are several branches sea/land breezes circulation and the local wind field become more complicated due to the interaction of the mesoscale sea/land breezes circulation and slope wind, at the same time, the complex terrain also takes an important role on the distribution and evolution in low layer wind field of Qingdao coastal area. The irregular coastline determines the exist of sea-land breezes circulation. Laoshan mountain, whose altitude is more than 1000 meters, lies at the east of the southern coast of Qingdao, have baffled effect on the sea wind extend toward inland at first, but its thermal effect boost the onshore wind appearing early than the one at the west of the southern coast. At the eastern coast of Jiaozhou Bay, the wind direction is southwest during the beginning period of the formation of sea breezes circulation, and turns to south to southeast with the further intensification and advancement of the sea breezes circulation at the west of the southern coast of Qingdao. While the sea breeze advancing toward inland, gravity waves will be brought on by the mountain which can be broadcast energy from lower to upper so the local convection weather probably occured. The contrastive analysis of two cases showed that the southern synoptic-scale wind field will restrain the sea/land breezes circulation while the northern synoptic-scale wind field will accelerate them. |
