The kittening behavior of female Amur tigers ( Panthera tigris altaica ) in captivity were observed by scanning sampling and all-occurrence sampling methods from the year of 1999 to 2003, which included 3 571 times in the whole 194 373 seconds by 22 tigers in the whole observation. The results are as the follows:a) 9 types of behavior were classified in the ethogram of female tigers and 7 were classified in kittens.b) The data showed bedding and cub-canoodling behaviors were the major of Amur tiger reproductive activities. Behavior of lying-on-the-bed and side-lying, abdomen-contracting and cub-licking were frequently happened, which accounted for 20. 41 13. 36% and 21. 48% respectively, more than half of the whole activity. Based on the time, the behavior duration, lying-on-the-bed and cub-licking were the longest, 40.56% and 33.39% respectively. The secondary is the behaviors of grooming, such as carding limbs (5.2%), carding pubes (3.22%) and tail (2.02%). Carding nipple behavior was very necessary for cubs to find nipples, but it was only 0. 74% of the whole period.c) There was no obvious difference in the behaviour of the same kittening Amur tiger between different years. Behaviour of bedding and cub-canoodling were much more frequently and lasted longer than the others. The activity rhythm of the same reproductive tiger was basically identic in different years.d) Great differences can be identified between different individuals in different years, which was supported by ANOVA (P<0. 05).
