Analytical solution to the interaction between linear water waves with a rigid vertical porous cylinder is derived. Under the assumptions of linearized potential flow, the coupled problem of flow in the interior and exterior fluid regions is solved by an eingenfunction-expansion approach. Numerical results of exterior region are presented with various wave and structural parameters. The results show that the more porous and porous length are, the less wave amplitude is. For certain parameter combinations the porous circular cylinder may significantly reduce the hydrodynamic forces. The interaction of wave with multiple circular cylinders is analyzed briefly in this paper also. The formula obtained by linton[] has been improved to form a relation of phase effects between cylinders. It is proved that the solution does exist when the contact of one cylinder with the nearby cylinder fails. The munerical results coincide well with analytic solutions[6], numerical solution and experimental data[10].The interaction of wave with multiple porous circular cylinders is analyzed also. The approximate value of the hydrodynamic force act on each porous cylinder can be calculated.
