We have sifted 103 medicinal plants, roughly identified 17 plants might contain antifungal proteins. Antifungal protein was purified from Cassia sophera Linn, by extraction, fraction with (NH4)2SO4 , cation-exchange chromatography of CM-Sepharose FF XK 26, the first cation-exchange chromatography of Mono S and the second one , followed by gel filtration of Superose 12HR. The purified antifungal protein gave one band on SDS-PAGE, and the subunit molecular mass is about 28.4kD.The water-soluble secondary metabolites of Cassia seeds of six species were analyzed by capillary electrophoresis. The running buffer was 0.lmol/L borate, 0.lmol/LSDS, pH 8.5, and the separation voltage was 25kV. Four common peaks can be found in the electropherograms of Cassia seeds of six species, the characteristic peaks can also be observed. Fingerprint of the Cassia seeds of six species showed significant differences, which can be used for their identification. Then we analyzed water-soluble secondary metabolites of Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels from eight different origins through capillary electrophoresis. Nineteen common peaks can be found in the electropherograms of Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels from Minxian Gansu, and nine common peaks can be found in the ones of Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels from eight different origins. The result of similarityshowed that the quality of Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels from Nanping and Baoxing Sichuan, Weiyuan Gansu, Lijiang Yunnan are similar with the quality of the one from Minxian Gansu, and the quality of the ones from Weizhong Qinghai, Jianshi and Lichuan Hubei are differ from the quality of the one from Minxian Gansu.
