The resource and the environment are indispensable to human beings. The mid-subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest is of significance to improve the environment, supply us with all kinds of biological resources, and expedite the sustainable development of society and so on. However a large number of the vegetation of forest is being destroyed and the mid-subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest stands in the breach with our civilization advancement. The small protected areas are consequently being set up one after another in order to protect the evergreen broad-leaved forest in our country. There were profound historical whys to set up the small protected area. Firstly, the people preferred the economic benefit of forest to the ecological benefit in the past old planned economy system. Secondly, The resource of natural evergreen broad-leaved forest is destroyed and increasingly exhausted because of the population increment and the science and technology advancement. Thirdly, we suffer from a great dread of the frequent natural - calamities and the continual deteriorated environment People began to be aware of the importance of the natural evergreen broad-leaved forest to human race and the protection for it. There are obvious differences between the small protected area and the nature reserve and we traditionally preferred to do researches on the climax forest communities of the nature reserve, and do less researches on the forest communities of the nature reserve which is being built up and resumptive. The studies on the ecological characteristics of mid-subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest of the small protected area were of importance. The small protected area in Huangyinling lies to the east of Jianyang city, Fujian province. The conditions of its climate, moisture and soil are high quality. The mid-subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest suffered the clear cutting fatally before 1950's or in 1950's. Now the natural secondary evergreen broad-leaved forest grows well after half-century restoration. The area of plot sampling in every typical community locality on the small protected area in Huangyinling were 1 600m2. The site factors were investigated by the method of forest community investigation, and the species, body number, height, D.B.H., coverage of herbage and so on were recorded. There were plenty of species on the small protected area in Huangyinling, having 52 families and 133 species. The vertical structure of each forest community were obvious and could be divided into tree layer, shrub layer, herbage layer and lianas. There were 88 species in the community l(Castanopsisfargesii-Symplocossumuntia-Acidosasa longiligula community), and Castanopsis fargesii, Castanopsis carlesii and Schima superba were the dominant species of tree layer, and Symplocos sumuntia and Acidosasa longiligula were respectively the dominant species of succession layer and regeneration layer. There were71 species in the community 2(Castanopsis fargesii- Itea chlnensis - Maesa japonica community), and Castanopsis fargesii and Itea chinensis were respectively the absolute dominant species of tree layer and succession layer, Maesa japonica was the dominant species of regeneration layer. There were 66 species in the community 3(Castanopsis fargesii+ Schima superba - Itea chinensis - Maesa japonica community), and Castanopsis fargesii and Schima superba were the dominant species of tree layer, and Itea chinensis and Symplocos sumuntia were the dominant species of succession layer, and Maesa japonica and Ardisia japonica was the dominant species of regeneration layer. There were 83 species in the community 4(Castanopsis sclerophylla - Camellia oleifera- Maesa japonica community), and Castanopsis sclerophylla,Castanopsis fargesii and Schima superba were the dominant species of tree layer, and Camellia oleifera, Itea chinensis and Symplocos sumuntia were the dominant species of succession layer, and Maesa japonica was the absolute dominant species of regeneration layer. There were 76 species in the community 5...
