The present thesis intends to discuss the solving of a difficult problem of developing and utilizing Bifidobacterium. By using the protoplast fusion technique, a pair of fusant BSF1 and BSF2, comparatively stable and having a biological character of both Bifidobacterium and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, are obtained when making a cell fusion of a homemade Bifilobacterium and Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Protoplast. The success of this research overcomes the difficulty in developing and utilizing Bifidobacterium because of its anaerobic character. The fusion of Bifidobacterium and Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Protoplast is not only a cell fusion of anaerobic bacteria and aerobic bacteria, but also an inter-kingdom fusion of prokaryoticcell and eukaryotic cell. As far as the author of this thesis has noted, no similar or related researches and achievements in this field have ever been reported both abroad and at home. Its success undoubtedly offers new ways in the study of bifidobacterium species'improvement as well as the development and utilization of its biological function in the future.
