In this paper, the application of off-axis reflection hologram in the display of color image is researched from theory to experiment. Color image includes static one and movable one. As to the static color image display, the two-dimension true color reflection hologram recorded by mono-wavelength laser is researched. The color information can be obtained easily, the cross-talk can be eliminated effectively. The field of view is large, the reconstructed image is brighter and the hue fidelity is high. As to the movable color image display, a method that the X-prism in color projection replaced by HOE is researched. The X-prism is expensive, the technical is complex and can not be largely produced easily. On the contrary, the HOE cheap, the projected light can be of a better color saturation, so the image has a more authentic hue and a good vision effect.Fast, the off-axis reflection hologram and some kinds of HOEs are introduced, the characteristics of reflection HOE are emphasized. Then, from the coupled wave theory, the internal structure, the diffraction efficiency, the peak wavelength, the band width, the affection of recording medium's expanding and shrinking etc. are thoroughly researched.Next, according to the requirement of color image display, the light path is designed. We use DCG as recording medium, test the image display function and discuss the relations among hue, bandwidth and brightness.Last, the further perfected problem and better application prospect are discussed.
