The advantage of transparent ceramic material not only lies in having better transparence, bearing corrosion and the energy works under the heat high pressure, but also has a lot of incomparable qualities of many other materials. Currently, the domestic and international research for transparent ceramics mostly based on both side of material making craft and the microstructure of transparent ceramics. As for the latter, the transparency of ceramic is mainly researched from factors like the size of grain, blowhole, crystal boundary, etc and the research above is mature relatively. However, it's very rare to analyze the scatter characteristic of transparent ceramics from the superficial roughness. This paper focuses on the superficial roughness to analyze the scatter characteristic of transparent ceramics, including creating mathematical models and theory vs the different roughness ceramic surface which has physical instruction meaning to improve the transparency. This paper introduces optical performance of transparent ceramics, present condition of researching and developing, and the basic theory to the rough side scatterings first. Then the impact of ceramic roughness to ceramic is introduced in detail, and Small Perturbation Approximation Method is used to study the scatterring question about tiny rough surface of transparent ceramic, while Kirchhoff Approximation Method is used to study the scatterring question about more rough surface. The scattering coefficient is abtained by numerical calculation, in which The influence of the root mean square and correlation length of rough surface, the dielectric permittivity of dielectric medium and the wave length of incident wave can be discussed. The results show that the influence of the root mean square and conelation length of rough surface, the dielectric permittivity of dielectric medium and the length of incident wave on scattering coefficient is comparative complex.
