Fluctuations in the magnetic field of the magnetic storm will produce geomagnetic induced current (GIC) towards the grid. GIC will have an enormous impact on the transformer, which will cause transformer burned even result in the destroy of the grid. Therefore, the monitoring and analysis of GIC is an important topic of the development of domestic intelligent grid. The monitoring of GIC in our country has just entered the initial stage. The research of GIC is mainly based on the topic which is supported by North China Electric Power University. The VxWorks based GIC online monitoring system analyzed the original system, and designed a new method; and meet the needs of GIC monitoring. Moreover, it can effectively improve the maintainability of real-time performance, and reducing the size of the monitoring device at the same time, and has a strong mobility, installation costs and cut maintenance costs effectively. Within the design of transmission module of Vx Works-based GIC online monitoring system, socket technology has been used for remote data transmission, such as GIC voltage, current, noise and vibration. The system also organized data from independent monitoring sites into a data network.The background of system applied.NET technology to complete the overall design of every module and detailed design of several modules. The background could collect, proceed and research the real-time data. In addition, with the extensive application of computer systems, many monitoring systems or control systems have to face the challenges of applicable to multi-platform, Many systems need to transform to the embedded system from the X86, therefore, the difficult point and key technologies within the development over multi-platform systems is also a direction for future research.
