Using spatio-temporal data of estuarine and coastal area in Yangtze River for researching data sources, the paper presents an approach to build a spatio-temporal data service system and discuss its key realized techniques. Data service of the system consists of there parts, which are data integration service, data management service and data analysis service. All the techniques of each part aim at serving for practical applications based on spatio-temporal data model and database.According to the spatial features, time features and topic features of data of Estuarine and coastal area in Yangtze River, a spatio-temporal database was built based on a kind of object oriented spatio-temporal model. Abstracting spatial data to object composed of ID, attitude assemble and operation assemble, the model express the data's changes of spatial features, time features and topic features. Based on the model vector data and raster data are distinguished to store in two databases, but those managements of storage structure, index, version and time relation are same. The function of each service are independent and encapsulated, because of the service operations and key techniques are mapping to the object's operation assemble.The techniques of data integration service include automatic digitization, contiguity processes of data from Multi-sources, integration display and real-time updating local area. The techniques of data management service include that using XML to create the data standard, using FLEX to develop WebGIS with RIA application, using ArcGIS Server to publish and share data with its metadata for multi-user. The paper reviews and introduces one case of key realized technique for each service. Three cases were explained to show whether the data service system can describe the changes of spatial-temporal data. The purpose of the techniques attempt is to find a way to make analysis tools for science research and project applications, and to display the static and dynamic simulating changes of feature-based data in estuarine and coastal area.
