In recent years, GPS positioning technology research and application sprang up in the industrial sector, which provides a strong support and services for this technology related equipment to determine the location. GPS is fully capable of positioning and data transmission equipment demand with its high precision and efficiency and all-weather, which has far-reaching impact on the business development. Therefore, it is a hot topic in the field of studying GPS positioning of how to introduce GPS positioning technology to industrial sector reasonably and efficiently, it provides the direction for this design.This paper describes the current development situation, research result and some problems relating to GPS positioning technology, based on that, a new approach brought out for a solution to facility positioning with a less hardware resources, a positioning system combining LabVIEW and GPS under Windows operating system. The system is computer-control centered, realizing mutual communication between computer and GPS receiver module by taking use of conversion chip MAX202CPE RS-232 and USB serial converter HL-340, real-time displaying the current location, altitude and time information of equipment by using positioning software system that was developed by LabVIEW in the computer. The GPS receiver module has feature of high sensitivity, and result in positioning deviation. Path planning can ease the positioning deviation to extent, which can enhance system stability and continuity.In this paper, the device positioning is object of the research, deeply studying of the GPS positioning system with LabVIEW as a platform, verifying the feasibility and reliability of the design by field experiments, as for the function of positioning, the original design goals is mostly achieved. And experimental data and numerous fields positioning experience were accumulated for the further development; however, there are still some problems aroused in the design and need to be solved.
