Background:Tunica vaginalis testis is double serous membranes which covered the testis, epididymis and spermatic cord. The vaginal cavity is formed by the two serous membranes, the visceral layer on the testicular side and the parietal layer on the scrotal side. Under normal circumstances, the vaginal cavity has little liquid, which has the function of lubrication and prevent the adhesion of serous membranes. When large amount of liquid accumulated in the vaginal cavity, hydrocele happened. It caused by stoppage of lymphatic mainly. Common causes are infection, injury and tumor. Lymphatic stomata are small openings of lymphatic capillaries on the free surface of the mesothelium. The peritoneal cavity, pleural cavity and pericardial cavity are connected-with lymphatic system via these small openings which have the function of active absorption. The lymphatic stomata have been found in the peritoneum, pleura, pericardium, and so on. However, there is not report about the tunica vaginalis testis lymphatic stomata.Objection:â‘ To study the ultrastructural structure of tunica vaginalis testis lymphatic stomata in the mouse and reveal the structural basis of the drainage path of vaginal cavity.â‘¡To study the absorption function of tunica vaginalis testis lymphatic stomata.Method:â‘ The ultrastructural structure of tunica vaginalis testis lymphatic drainage units in the mouse were examined by the scanning electron microscope (SEM), the transmission electron microscope (TEM), and the NaOH digestion method.â‘¡Using trypan blue as a tracer material observe absorption function of tunica vaginalis testis lymphatic stomata.Result:The ultrastructure of mouse tunica vaginalis testis lymphatic drainage units:On the parietal layer, there are two kinds of mesothelial cells:flat mesothelial cells and cubic mesothelial cells. However, there are only flat mesothelial cells on the visceral layer. Lymphatic stomata located only in the regions of cubic mesothelial cells on the parietal layer. On the visceral layer, lymphatic stomata located in the regions of flat mesothelial cells. By TEM, the vaginal cavity was connected with the lymphatic system by the lymphatic stomata, connective tissue and the gap between lymphatic endothelial cells. Under SEM, round or ellipse milky spots composed mainly of macrophages arranged in the parietal layer were seen on tunica vaginalis testis. There were lymphatic stomata around them. The macrophages of the milky spots were of the static type, with many threadlike processes projecting out from their cellular surface. The tunica vaginalis testis is staining. Conclusion:There are lymphatic stomata in both layer of tunica vaginalis testis. The tunica vaginalis testis. lymphatic stomata have the function of absorption from the vaginal cavity.
