Villages and towns land utilization spatial configuration optimization and its applications were studied in this paper.It selecteed the Gaoqiao Town, Fuyang City of Zhejiang Province as the study area.The basic data was collected:the land use status of the year in1996,the land use status of the year and in 2005 and the results of the second land survey in2009 combined with the basic situation of the soil map, land gradation map and so on. The cultivated land and rural residential were as optimized objects to carry out land space configuration optimization using the GIS spatial analysis functions. Besides,the new round of land use planning of Gaoqiao Town was operated in the subsystem of towns land analysis, assessment, warning, regulation and spatial optimal decision. The new land use planning was modified reference to the results of subsystem operation.The subsystem provided technical platform and technical means for the bureau of land and resources and ensured sustainable management of towns land.The major research content and the results were as follows:(1) The comprehensive assessment of cultivated landquality. The cultivated land quality of the study area was evaluated from the angle of farming suitability using soil quality index, soil synthetic pollution index, the soil samples of Gaoqiao Town s.This date combined with " Press-State-Response, PSR" models to fix the cultivated land risk evaluation indicators and to analysis it. Results showed that cultivated land risk index was higher, the probability was higher of cultivated land was converted to construction land. Therefore, in the land use, should encourage other regional land into agricultural production and directly for the service of agricultural production, try to control land farmland change purposes.(2) Space layout optimization to basic farmland. Quality evaluation of cultivated land provided reasonable layout of basic farmland. The existing basic farmland and the quality evaluation of cultivated land were analyzed with overlap in ArcGIS. Sametime, the distribution of basic farmland was evaluated the reasonable and layout optimizeation scheme.(3)The status of rural residential and layout optimization. The rural residential was optimized according to past Gaoqiao Town land use data and the fractal dimension model.The optimization measures included to select reclamation districts and new construction districts.The optimization of rural residential provided basis for the local comprehensive treatment plan of rural land.(4) The suitability evaluation results and the new round of land use planning of Gaoqiao Town were operated in the subsystem of towns land analysis, assessment, warning, regulation and spatial optimal decision.The new land use planning was modified reference to the results of subsystem operation.The subsystem provided technical platform and technical means for the bureau of land and resources and ensured sustainable management of towns land.
