The rapid development and wide application of new-generation information technologies such as big data,cloud computing,Internet of Things,artificial intelligence,etc.have promoted major breakthroughs and development of emerging technologies such as digital manufacturing,bioelectronics,new materials,etc.,which greatly promote cross-boundary integration among different technologies and cross-boundary cooperation among different enterprises,and accelerate cross-boundary innovation of emerging technologies.Emerging technologies are highly complex,ambiguous and uncertain,and require a continuous increase of various required resources during their development.The cross-boundary innovation network of emerging technologies can effectively promote the free flow and integration among innovation resource elements,accelerate the accumulation of innovation resources of emerging technology enterprises,enhance the cross-boundary innovation performance of emerging technology enterprises,and help enterprises enhance their innovation competitive advantages.Therefore,an in-depth study on the evolution of cross-boundary innovation networks of emerging technologies and their innovation performance is of great theoretical significance and practical value to improve the sustainable innovation capability of emerging technology enterprises in China and accelerate the development of emerging technologies.Starting from the development characteristics of emerging technologies,this thesis explores the subjects and motives of crossboundary innovation of emerging technologies,and through analyzing the evolutionary trajectory of emerging technologies,it delves into the knowledge flow and cross-boundary integration during the development of emerging technologies,revealing the evolutionary mechanism of cross-boundary innovation network of emerging technologies,and on this basis,it further studies the mechanism of the impact of cross-boundary innovation network of emerging technologies on innovation performance by analyzing the characteristics of innovation networks that affect cross-boundary innovation performance.Through the empirical analysis,the stage characteristics and main rules of the evolution of cross-boundary innovation networks of emerging technologies are explored,and the influence mechanism of cross-boundary innovation networks of emerging technologies on innovation performance is revealed.Through case studies,the evolution of cross-boundary innovation network of emerging technologies and its process of influencing cross-boundary innovation performance are investigated,and the relevant research findings are tested practically.The mechanism of the evolution of cross-boundary innovation network of emerging technologies and its influence on innovation performance is studied.The emerging technology enterprises build knowledge flow paths with innovation subjects through cross-boundary behavior,promote knowledge diffusion and absorption within the cross-boundary innovation network,make different technologies integrate across borders,and promote cross-boundary innovation.At the same time,the increase in the number and change in the direction of cross-boundary paths of emerging technology enterprises have a series of impacts on the original technology innovation network,which makes the overall network scale expand continuously,the number of network connections increase,the network relationship enhance,the knowledge resources within the network become more diverse and the knowledge mobility enhance,thus accelerating the knowledge acquisition of emerging technology enterprises,promoting the knowledge transformation of enterprises,enabling enterprises to further create new knowledge and promote crossboundary innovation performance enhancement.The evolution process of cross-boundary innovation network of emerging technologies is explored,and the stage characteristics and main laws of network evolution are analyzed.Using the social network analysis method,the IPC co-occurrence network,patent owner cooperation network and patent citation network are constructed using patent data of self-driving car technology inventions for overall network analysis.It is found that with the development of self-driving car technology,the number of technology fields within the network is increasing and the integration between different technologies is becoming more and more common;the overall scale of the network is expanding and the innovation cooperation among subjects tends to be open;the knowledge resources within the network are more diversified and the knowledge mobility is enhanced,and the existence of a few core nodes with competitive advantages and strengths plays an important role in promoting the evolution of the network.On this basis,we further analyzed the individual networks of Baidu and Ford,and find that the two enterprises adopt different technological development paths and go through three stages of “opportunity identification”,“cross-boundary search” and “cross-boundary cooperation” in their cross-boundary behaviors,and in the process of their technological development,the number of innovative subjects within the networks gradually increased,the technological fields involved became more extensive,and the phenomenon of knowledge flow is more frequent.The characteristics of innovation networks that affect crossboundary innovation performance are analyzed,and the influence mechanism of emerging technology cross-boundary innovation networks on innovation performance is revealed.The analysis of the influencing factors of cross-boundary innovation performance is carried out from three aspects of network structure,network relationship and firm knowledge,and the structural equation modeling analysis method is used to reveal the influence mechanism of emerging technology crossboundary innovation networks on innovation performance.It is found that network size,linkage strength and cognitive distance as well as emerging technology firm knowledge structure all directly and positively influence cross-boundary innovation performance;the mediating effect of technology diffusion is more significant,playing a partially mediating role in the influence of network size,linkage cognitive distance and linkage strength on cross-boundary innovation performance,and a fully mediating role in the influence of network centrality and firm knowledge level on cross-boundary innovation performance.A case study is applied to verify and deepen the relevant research findings.Taking the ART as the research object,we launched a longitudinal case study on its development process,explored the stage process of cross-boundary innovation formation,and analyze the mechanism of the role of cross-boundary innovation network.It is found that in the productization stage of cross-boundary innovation,emerging technology enterprises promote the formation of new technologies and products and enhance technological performance through technical cooperation networks,while in the commercialization stage,they promote the formation of new product markets and enhance market performance through market cooperation networks;on this basis,the resources of technology and market networks are further coordinated to achieve synergistic development and value co-creation between them and promote the sustainable improvement of cross-boundary innovation performance.Through the above research,this thesis explains the evolution of cross-boundary innovation network of emerging technologies and its impact on innovation performance,discovers the main characteristics and laws of the evolution of cross-boundary innovation network of emerging technologies,reveals the influence mechanism of cross-boundary innovation network of emerging technologies on cross-boundary innovation performance,and further clarifies the relationship between cross-boundary behavior,cross-boundary innovation network and cross-boundary innovation performance of emerging technology enterprises.The findings obtained from the study provide practical insights for emerging technology enterprises to develop effective innovation cooperation strategies to improve emerging technology innovation performance,and for government departments to create a favorable emerging technology innovation environment,enhance the efficiency of enterprise technology innovation behavior management,and promote emerging technology innovation.
