| Immigrants are seen as a strategic asset by countries that receive them because they assist in bridging the shortfall.Numerous studies conducted in various economies indicate that immigrants’ entrepreneurial aspirations and motives differ from native-born citizens.Immigrants’impact on innovation and economic growth has been studied in several countries. While there is a wealth of literature on many ethnic entrepreneurship elements, the contribution of immigrant entrepreneurs to the host country is immense.Immigrant businesses have many implications on the host country’s socio-economic life, depending on the overall proportion and policies intended to assist minority businesses in general.Immigrant companies play essential roles in boosting the economies of the host countries.Ethnic communities rely on immigrant-founded businesses to grow and thrive.Immigrants’ goals and motivations towards self-employment and their enterprises’ eventual performance are influenced by their host nations’ managerial, social capital, and institutional settings.Despite the growing importance of immigrant entrepreneurship in the host country, research from emerging economies, particularly sub-Saharan Africa,is scarce. This underscores the need for research on immigrant businesses from developing economies. This study offers an integrated approach to studying immigrant entrepreneurs in Ghana by integrating various institutional and social capital theories to explain how immigrant businesses succeed in Ghana. Conclusions are drawn based on the structural model analysis.By addressing these research questions, this study employs a cross-sectional survey and uses a structural equation model. The study confirms that a favourable institutional environment supports immigrant entrepreneurship success. This research, therefore, integrated a conceptual framework that examines the factors influencing immigrant business performance in Ghana. Here, the research examined, teased out,and explained the various critical factors that enhance immigrant business performance in Ghana. Thus, the research also contributes to the literature on immigrant business performance, particularly in a developing country like Ghana.Furthermore, this research also developed a conceptual framework based on social capital theory and institutional theory to examine the relationship between independent variables(institutional framework and social capital factors)and dependent variables(immigrant business performance). Therefore, using institutional theory combined with a social capital theory, this study did offer a helpful model for explaining the performance of immigrant businesses in Ghana hence contributing towards theory building of immigrant entrepreneurship. Therefore, according to the research, the government should prioritize improving the existing institutional framework that affects immigrant enterprises directly or indirectly. |
