A Study On The Role Of The United States Towards South Sudan Independence,2005-2011

The United States of America’s(USA)active role in the South Sudan Independence movement has helped the North and South to reach the Comprehensive Peace Agreement(CPA).As a result,in January 2005,the 38 years of armed conflict has formally ended-which took place in two civil wars:one from 1956-1972,and the second from 1983-2005.Nevertheless,the US role after the(CPA)agreement was essentially focused on ensuring a peaceful transition of institutions and conducting a referendum in Southern Sudan.Furthermore,this thesis examines and evaluates U.S interest and role in South Sudan Independence and why the US gave a moral commitment to the South Sudanese ’road to Independence’and what are the objectives,Second,so far the extent of literature has focused much on South Sudanese Independence movement from North and South perspectives,and African Union involvement in the issue,however,there is a deficit of literature about the US role.With this,the thesis intends to contribute to the literature and unfold the less studied United States role in the ’South Sudan’ road to Independence.In addition,the thesis would find greater relevance within the context of examining policy perspectives(empirical survey)about the US role in ’South Sudan’ road to Independence from various foreign policy experts,decision-makers,and note why the U.S role in this issue has received less criticism about its involvement when compared with other parts of the world.Therefore,this study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the United States of America’s(USA)role towards South Sudan Independence,motives,efforts,and consequences.In addition,the asymmetric relationship between the North and South Sudan would be examined.The objective of this research is to highlight the key role played by the U.S in South Sudan Independence.
