The self-reform of the Communist Party of China(CPC)is an original political discourse with Chinese characteristics,it is a unique character, and the greatest advantage of the CPC different from other political parties."Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the Major Achievements and Historical Experience of the Party over the Past Century",adopted at the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee has regarded the self-reform as one of "ten experiences" that CPC must uphold its centennial exploration.General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that self-reform is the "second answer" to the CPC to jump out of the historical cycle of rise and fall, and constantly enrich the connotation of self-reform since Comrade Mao Zedong has put forward the first answer to people’s democracy.Hence,we called it is the "second answer" to the historical cycle of rise and fall. Those two answers are dialectical unity,however,self-reform is more decisive in the new era when the CPC jumps out of the historical cycle of rise and fall and realizes long-term governance.Self-reform is the "root" and "soul" of strengthening Party discipline in the new era,it reveals the great project of Party building in the new era,as well as the basic laws and fundamental characteristics of full and strict governance over the Party. It is the distinctive characteristics and unique advantages of a party managed under the party system of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The study focuses on the discussion that self-reform is the second answer to jump out of historical cycle of rise and fall for CPC,associated with theory and practice, history and reality, trying to explain why the CPC can jump out of historical cycle of rise and fall by relying on self-reform,summarizing the experience of partys self-reform,and Looking forward to how the CPC continue to rely on self-reform to jump out of the historical cycle of rise and fall. This study contains six chapters, the first chapter poses the questions, the second chapter analyzes the concepts, the third chapter explains the theories, the fourth chapter recollects history, the fifth chapter summarizes practice, and the sixth chapter looks forward to the future. The first chapter mainly explains that self-reform is the second answer for the CPC to jump out of the historical cycle of rise and fall, which is the fundamental significance of the study. How to jump out of the historical cycle of rise and fall is a major topic that must be delved into deeply by the CPC.People’s democracy and self-reform are two answers for jumping out of the historical cycle of rise and fall. The first answer, people’s democracy, relies on the supervision of the people, and the second answer,self-reform,relies on the party’s own strength. For those two answers, one is external, the other is internal. Both of them complemented each other and worked in the same direction,as well as acted on the party’s practical activities that jump out of the historical cycle of rise and fall, while self-reform plays a more decisive role in the two answers. The second chapter explains the theoretical overview of the Party’s self-reform in the new era, which is the premise of the study. It also systematically sorts out the basic process and internal logic of the party’s self-reform proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping in the new era.And then, this chapter defines the specific meaning from the dimensions of the subject, object, means, and purpose of self-reform,and summarizes the basic characteristics of self-reform,such as initiative progress, thoroughness, and sustainability. In addition, this chapter explains and analyses some important concepts that are easy to confuse. The third chapter explains the theoretical origin of the Party’s self-reform,which is the theoretical basis of the thesis. The Party’s self-reform in the new era has a solid theoretical foundation.First,it is rooted in the party-building theory of Marxist writings, especially the self-reform is thought of Marx,Engels, and Lenin.Secondly,it is rooted in Chinese traditional culture,In particular, for the thoughts of introspection, vigilance in times of peace,self-respect,reform and innovation in the excellent traditional Chinese culture providing cultural nourishment for the self-reform;Thirdly,it is originated from the guiding ideology of Marxism in China,Mao Zedong Thought and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics have provided important theoretical nourishment for the self-reform in the new era.The fourth chapter explains the historical ’evolution of the Party’s self-reform,which is the historical basis of the thesis.Although the specific expression of self-reform is the political discourse of socialism with Chinese characteristics in a new era,the CPC has actively undertaken the task of self-reform,carried out the practice of self-reform and bred the spirit of self-reform.The criticism and self-criticism formed during the new democratic revolution and the Yan’an rectification movement, are the form of the party’s self-reform;The spirit of"upholding truth and correcting mistakes" and the movements against the "three evils"and the "five evils" are the form of the party’s self-reform;Inner-Party Education Activities, such as the discussion on the standard of truth in a new era of opening up and socialist modernization, the "Three Stresses" and "maintaining the advanced nature of the Communists",are also the form of the party’s self-reform.Those explorations and practices from the establishment of the CPC to the Party’s 18th National Congress, are the form of self-reform in essence. These attempts and explorations are important references for the CPC to promote self-reform in the new era.The fifth chapter explains the great practice of the Party’s self-reform in the new era, which is the real basis of thesis.Comprehensively and strictly governing the party is a great practice of the party’s self-reform in the new era.The Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core has promoted the theoretical innovation, practical innovation, institutional innovation, and cultural innovation of self-reform,which focuses on prominent problems, removing body toxins, strengthening ideals and beliefs, and establishing mechanisms to achieve self-improvement.In addition, improving the work style, enforcing discipline, punishing corruption, creating positive political ecology, enhancing skills, improving the realm, and maintaining vitality are terms of achieving self-improvement as well.Among them,self-purification,self-improvement,self-innovation,and self-improvement complement each other and dialectically unified in the party’s self-reform.The sixth chapter is the practical path to promote the Party’s self-reform,which is the practical value of the thesis.Self-reform forges a strong political party, and a strong party leads a great social reform.General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward the strategic thought named "Six Persistence",which is the fundamental adherence of the CPC to jump out of the historical cycle of rise and fall by relying on self-reform on the new journey of building a modern socialist country in all-around way and realizing the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. On the new journey,we should rely on self-reform to jump out of historical cycle of rise and fall.We must take the party’s political construction as the command to ensure the correct political direction of self-reform;We must refine the ideological weapon of self-reform on the basis of the party’s ideological construction; We must be strict in discipline, straighten out the style of work, and enrich the effective ways of self-reform;We must continue to fight corruption and punish evil, and fight a long-term war of self-reform;We must improve the organizational cohesion and forge a strong cadre team for self-reform;We must build a "four selves" system of institutional norms and consolidate the institutional guarantee of self-reform.
