With research of calculation and assessment into information and intelligence from corresponding academic literature publishing,it’s possible to know the general situation of the development of musicology in China.Previous researches basically followed the simple method of bibliometrics. For example, what papers were published in which journals,by which scholars from what institutions,or what books and monographs were published, and what about the citation rates of these academic achievements, etc. However, most of the studies of predecessors in the current academic circle are confined to an "isolated" perspective. This article focuses on investigation of the development of musicology in China from a further perspective of "relationship network".The so-called perspective of relationship network is to see associatively the various elements in a whole, rather than to examine each research object in isolation. In this regard, this article takes the co-authoring relationship and citation relationship generated from journal documents in the field of musicology in China as the research object;it also belongs to research of the branch of library and information science — category of bibliometric. The purpose of the research is to explore academic information from the networks;to further prove,to interpret quantitatively,or to make reinterpretation, with respect to existing knowledge in the musicology field, perhaps to clarify, even to doubt or modify. It is to provide a way of information retrieval and literature review for musicology, and achieve the purpose of subjects evaluation, classification, and exploration into intelligence structure,as well as a methodological and epistemological enlightenment. The first chapter introduces the theories or concepts related to "academic network",which can be traced from two perspectives: First, academic network research belongs to the category of "social network analysis".The latter is a quantitative research method closely related to statistics, and its basic research object is social relations or social structure. The academic network is the relationship that embodies social relationships into the academic circle, and is characterized by formal relationships such as academic cooperation and citation. This quantification method has the characteristics of operability and "formalization".It uses the "nodes" representing the elements and objects and the "edges" used to characterize the relationship between them to form the "sociogram" of the network, and with analysis based on network indicators. It not only has the meaning of structuralist methodology and epistemology, but also belongs to the category of network science.Second, academic network research can also be partially regarded as the category of knowledge graphs of citation analysis, which emphasize the use of visualized graphs to explore academic subgroups and reveal the "intelligence structure" of a subject area.In other words, this research is also partially used as a preliminary construction of the citation knowledge graph of musicology.Regardless of the perspective above, this article is actually a deepening of the library and information science and bibliometric research of musicology. However, the observation of the "academic network" of musicology does not necessarily have to reach a clear and absolute conclusion on specific musicological issues, but emphasizes the interpreting and significance of the issues. The excavation of academic information and interpretation and inference are only in a position that provides academic reference. As far as the development of musicology in my country is concerned, the issues that this article focuses on can be summarized into two categories: one is evaluation research, involving the output and influence of academic achievements, and to diachronic evaluation;based on various nodes as literature, scholars, journals, and institutions, separately. The second is "classification research".To be precise,it is the study of the "community structure" formed through academic exchanges;up to what is the "intelligence structure" of musicology in China from the perspective of the knowledge graph? This article gives a new definition of the “intelligence structure”,that is,the "interrelationship of various elements" in a field of knowledge. For example, what is the relationship between the secondary disciplines or sub-fields of musicology, especially the relationship between scholars? The vastness of the subject requires this article uses a "little point to large area" approach. The so-called large area is mainly based on the broad category of musicology in our country, whereby showing the full picture of academic development, and using objective quantification, visualization and "removing the rough and extracting the refined" to discuss;the so-called little point is shrinking to the specific secondary disciplines such as anthropology of music plus related fields, then as to broaden views to large area through little point.Anthropology of music is based on the musical forms and contents and extends to a wide range of social and cultural categories. It is closely related to many other sub-fields of musicology. At the same time,it has always had problems such as subject boundaries being unclear and academic ideas remaining divergent, which however, just provides space for research through academic networks."Social network analysis" is not only a sociological subject, but also a method. This article uses its method logic as a permeating clue to deduce social networks into "academic networks",which are represented in three types, and expanded layer by layer: First,it is the cooperative relationship network(Chapter 3),and the second is the "mutual citation" relationship network(Chapter 4);the third is to transform the mutual citation relationship network into a "co-citation" relationship network, including the "word co-occurrence" relationship as its branch, etc.(Chapter 5).Chapter Two of research design:(1)From the perspective of data selection, currently only the CSSCI database in China can provide comprehensive "relational data" on the literature for academic network. This research makes a database and relational model on this basis. In view of the fact that in terms of academic quality of literature, the CSSCI database does have been in a leading position in China,so the samples from that in this study are representative. It should be noted that the "based on" is the journal literature, but the book literature data is also supplemented from the clues of the network relationship and added to the sample.(2)As far as the research paradigm is concerned, the three of social sciences are combined, namely, descriptive research and exploratory research are the main ones, and explanatory research is the supplement.(3)As to research methods, emphasis is placed on the visualization of sociograms and graphs,as well as the "network" method, but at the same time the quantitative method of statistical multivariate analysis must be combined,so it is with the qualitative method of literature and interview that cannot be underestimated.(4)In the initial research stage,a descriptive statistical analysis of the literature publication status reflected in the database has been performed to provide basic conditions for the three types of network research. In the third chapter of cooperative network research, based on the cooperative relationship,it provides a reference for the evaluation of scholars’ social influence.Through cooperative networks,it explores academic subgroups, finding that star-like cooperative networks are more common in academic circles, and makes speculations about the cohesion of subgroups. At the same time,it borrows the stochastic network model of network science to form a new understanding and reflection on the characteristics of the community structure formed by the cooperative relationship:such as the significance in promoting network connectivity of some important academic activities and events;so the saying that cooperation network is easy to reveal the community structure of the secondary discipline or sub-domains of musicology in our country is not as good as that it is to facilitate cross-domain dialogue. The discussion in Chapter Three firstly introduces the way of thinking of social network analysis.Furthermore, given that musicology is the subject of humanities, and co-authoring of the humanities is not prominent enough,to conclude the research in this chapter, about evaluation or classification, there are unfinished points and it paves the way for subsequent chapters. In the "mutual citation" network research in Chapter Four, the academic influence of literature, authors, journals, etc.is concentratedly evaluated and analyzed. In particular, new evaluation methods are formed through betweenness centrality, closeness centrality, and core-periphery models, and explained are their connotation. The second section starts from the perspective of "genealogy" and explores the main components in the pedigree of knowledge flow in the citation network, that is,to find two major fields in the academic world, which are closely related to anthropology of music: one is about the combination of historical musicology and anthropology of music, involving the integration of synchronic and diachronic paradigms. The other is a dispute about the titles and concepts of ethnomusicology and anthropology of music, involving the "controversy over ontology or culture".From the microscopic perspective of the dyad and triad pedigrees, the issue of equal communication and hierarchy implicit in the network is discussed. This part is a transition to the study of academic communication community structure in method and logic. Then, starting from the third section,a general and diachronic segmented investigation of the community structure of the cross-citation network is carried out.On the issue of“large area”,further explanations and deductions are made: due to factors such as differences in research objects, the musicology academic network in China has a pattern of “Western musicology — Chinese musicology”,a division between China and the West to a certain extent;During the sub-periods,different sub-disciplines or sub-field groups ebb and flow;or disappear or appear from time to time, such as those involving music performance arts, ethnic music education, and music exchanges between Chinese and the foreign. On the issue of "little point",it focuses on the differentiation within the anthropology of music, the boundaries of disciplines and various inter-group relations. The above studies, vividly speaking, mainly describe and explore the network from the perspective of knowledge flow and academic exchanges, and it exerts the advantage of the mutual citation network to more sensitively capture academic information. In the "co-citation" network analysis in Chapter 5,the conversion mechanism from mutual citation to co-citation and the connotation of similarity are explained.First, with the convenience of visual analysis,it continues to analyze and compare the co-citation network of journal documents and book documents;second,it combines factor analysis, cluster analysis, and path finding networks to further explore the "underlying structure" of the network. In order to observe the intelligence structure,it provides a variety of solutions for the classification problems in different application scenarios;it also supplements the empirical basis for various literatures as "Introduction to Musicology" on the division of discipline;at the same time,it also provides evidence for anthropology of music, about its role, location, and the "fuzziness" of subject boundaries are scientifically explained. The focus of this chapter is on the factor analysis of scholars.Through this method,we can also explore and seek evidence for scholars’ "cross-border" phenomena. The keyword co-occurrence network analysis in the third section provides another explanation for the subject structure. In short, this chapter adopts different methods for the analysis of disciplinary structure and other issues, thus revealing the multi-faceted nature of complex issues(see the main body for conclusions and opinions)and the value of different methods.Chapter 6 summarizes and discusses the limitations, deficiencies, and suggestions for improvement of the research. In the extended discussion,a comparison of network analysis is made, and the sociological significance behind the cross-citation and co-citation network and the enlightenment from the "syntagmatic-paradigmatic relationship" of structuralist semiotics are explained. It discusses the relation between quantity and quality, the "Matthew Effect" in the academic communication system and puts forwards some opinions on practical issues such as the academic evaluation of musicology in our country. Finally, from academic networks to knowledge graphs,we talk about the possibility of in-depth integration with music research in the future.
