Study On The Language Situation Of The Korean Ethnic Group In Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture

The Korean ethnic group is one of the ethnic minorities with a large population in China.Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture(hereinafter referred to as "Yanbian Prefecture")is the largest and most important habitation for them,where Korean and Han live together for a long time,Korean and Chinese coexist and influence each other greatly.Bilingualism at the social level is widespread,and the language environment is complex in Yanbian Prefecture.With the progress of society,the social environment,language environment and psychological environment of the Korean people in Yanbian Prefecture have undergone great changes.With the success of the 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,the state has put forward new requirements and expectations for the development of ethnic minority language in new era.On the one hand,it is necessary to remove the communication barriers among various ethnic groups,so as to promote smooth communication and strengthen the sense of unity among Chinese nation;On the other hand,the protection and inheritance of minority languages suffered great challenge due to the decline of the mother tongue in some ethnic minority areas,and some minority languages have become critically endangered.These problems also seriously influence the dissemination and promotion of the standard national language in minority areas,and restrict the high-quality development of Chinese language.Therefore,a comprehensive understanding of the language life conditions of the Korean people in Yanbian Prefecture and discovering the language development trend can provide an important reference for the investigation of the nation as well as the ethnic minority regions from the perspective of language,the smooth promotion of the national language strategy,and the construction of a harmonious and diversified language life.Based on the theories of sociolinguistics,this study conducted a survey on the language use,language competence,language acquisition and language attitude of Korean people in Yanbian Prefecture by combining multiple research methods such as questionnaire,data analysis and interview.By analyzing the most authentic and reliable research data through SPSS 20.0,the characteristics of the language life of the Korean people in Yanbian Prefecture were summarized,and the deep social factors affecting the language life of the Korean people there were found,so as to grasp the overall development trend of the language life of the Korean people in Yanbian Prefecture.The current language life of Yanbian Koreans is characterized by the fact that:most Koreans are more typical bilinguals;they displayed high ability of both Chinese and native languages;they attach importance to the acquisition and learning of Chinese and native languages;they have positive attitudes towards Chinese and their mother tongue.The language development trend is also reflected in this study:there is a great improvement in Chinese language use,ability,acquisition,attitude among the Korean people,and the status and influence of the Chinese language have been greatly improved in this area;Due to social stability and good traditional cultural atmosphere,Yanbian Korean native language still occupies the dominant subject,the Korean people in general show strong language ability,good acquisition and positive attitude in regard to their mother tongue.Whereas,under the influence of modern society,problems also exist such as poor consciousness of cultural protection,lack of traditional cultural quality education and no long-term system planning.In addition,the Korean people in Yanbian Prefecture have a certain understanding of the laws and regulations of national language policies,but their knowledge of some specific laws and regulations are highly restricted,which needs further publicity and popularization.According to the needs of national policy and social development,we put forward three suggestions: First,steadily and continuously promote the national language policy of promoting Putonghua;Second,continuously enhance the inheritance and protection of the Korean language and culture in the long run;Third,to promote the regional economic development with the typical local language and culture,so as to realize the dual role of protecting and developing the language and culture on the one hand,and realizing economic development by giving full play to the ethnic and regional advantages on the other hand.In short,this study conducted a detailed investigation and analysis of Korean language use,language ability,language acquisition and language attitude to comprehensively understand and reflect the current situation of Korean language life in Yanbian Prefecture.These studies will have certain theoretical reference value for the interdisciplinary research of linguistics,sociology,ethnology and other disciplines.It will also further enrich the data of the survey of the national language conditions,and discover some common problems existing in the process of promoting the national standard language and script and protecting the languages and scripts of ethnic minorities in Yanbian Prefecture in the new era.This is of great practical significance and practical value for solving the problems of language life in other ethnic minority areas,building a standardized,harmonious and healthy social and linguistic environment in the region,and protecting and developing ethnic minority language and cultural resources.
