| Chen Mengjia(1911.4-1966.9)was a famous archaeologist,historian and paleographer.Among the extensive academic fields of Chen Mengjia,the bronze ware research is undoubtedly the longest and the highest achievement.In this field,Chen Mengjia has completed a number of important works,represented by Catalogue of Overseas Chinese Bronzes,General Study of Chinese Bronzes,Collection of Chinese Bronzes in the United States,and Bronze Dating in the Western Zhou Dynasty.Centering on the above works and taking into account other works,this paper starts from the key issues of the study of bronze ware,such as function,shape,pattern,inscription and technology,and comprehensively combs Chen Mengjia’s academic views.Based on Chen Mengjia’s letters,diaries and other materials,combined with the academic environment and research level of Chen Mengjia’s time,this paper analyzes the reasons for the internal direction change and the formation of his views on bronze ware research.The main body of this thesis consists of eight parts:Part one:Foreword,This paper introduces the various stages of Chen Mengjia’s bronzes research,divides the periods of his bronzes research,and probes into the academic purview of each period.Brief description of Chen Mengjia’s bronzology works;To summarize the research status of Chen Mengjia’s bronzeology,evaluate the achievements and shortcomings of previous scholars;State the scope,chapter setting,methodology and shortcomings of this study.Part two:thematic research.This part includes the first chapter to the sixth chapter:the first chapter systematically studies Chen Mengjia’s achievements in the classification,function and naming of bronze ware;The second chapter introduces the theoretical development,practice and deficiency of Chen Mengjia’s bronzes typology,explores the formation process of Chen Mengjia’s bronzes typology theory,and studies its specific classification of bronzes.The third chapter studies the theoretical development of Chen Mengjia’s bronze decoration and analyzes the source of his theory.The fourth chapter includes the interpretation of Chen Mengjia’s golden texts,the study of the bronze official,the study of the gifts,the study of history and historical geography;The fifth chapter sorted out the dating methods of Chen Mengjia’s bronzes from the aspects of the shape,pattern and figure of the bronzes and analyzed the development process of his theory of the Western Zhou period.The sixth chapter is the research on the differentiation and casting of Chen Mengjia’s bronze wares.Each chapter summarizes Chen Mengjia’s views on these issues as comprehensively as possible,clarifies the changes of views in different research periods,and reviews Chen Mengjia’s studies from both vertical and horizontal aspects by combining the research achievements of scholars of his time and taking the latest viewpoints of contemporary research as the criterion.Part three:conclusion.The rest of the thesis is divided into three parts:summarizing the contents of each chapter of this thesis,and expounding Chen Mengjia’s academic contribution;The influence of Guo Moruo and Rong Geng on the study of Chen Mengjia’s bronze ware is expounded.Analyze the reasons for Chen Mengjia’s great achievements in copperology.Part four:appendix.In the process of writing the paper,according to the needs,we comprehensively sorted out the opinions on specific aspects of the research on Chen Mengjia’s bronzes and made three tables,which are respectively:Chronology of the research on Chen Mengjia’s bronzes and related Events,Table of the Research on Place Names of Chen Mengjia’s Jinwen,Table of Chen Mengjia’s Jinwen Interpretation of characters,Table of Chen Mengjia’s West Zhou Dynasty bronze dating opinion. |
