With the development of society,in the process of contemporary urban construction,it is necessary not only to maintain the stability,coordination and sustainable development of politics and economy,but also to display distinctive urban culture while building a beautiful urban form.Urban culture as a kind of collective memory exists in urban historical archives and historical and cultural heritage,at the same time,as an effective means for art to intervene in urban space construction,urban planning and even urban management,urban public art,following the clues of time and space,preserves and narrates the cultural memory of the city for citizens,visitors and future generations.The integration of the protection of historical and cultural heritage and the construction of public art can form interaction and play a catalytic role in the process of urban construction and the protection,inheritance,display and development of urban culture,and the research of the integration of the protection of historical and cultural heritage and the construction of public art could be extremely important.Urban public art has important significance,function and value for the protection of historical and cultural heritage.Compared with many big cities,Sydney in Australia does not have a long history,but it has established a relatively complete urban public art system.Urban public art works such as installations,sculptures and monuments can be seen everywhere in the streets,which not only enhance the city’s identity and legibility,but also protect and continue the historical context of Sydney to the greatest extent.It is worth noting that Sydney’s public art policies and action plans all emphasize the attention to the urban historical and cultural heritage protection,including the emphasis of indigenous culture and heritage features in the public areas of the city,as well as the value and inheritance for the multicultural different ethnic residents’ historical and cultural heritage.These measures have effectively promoted the city’s historical and cultural heritage protection and the prosperity of public art.This dissertation focuses on the public art construction of Sydney from the perspective of historical and cultural heritage protection with the analysis of field research,policy,combined with the present situation of domestic related fields in China,hopes to be able to promote the historical and cultural heritage protection practice and to provide basis for the establishment of corresponding policies and regulations.The research content mainly consists of the following five parts:First of all,through sorting out and defining the concept of urban public art,historical and cultural heritage,the content and boundary of the subject are determined by combining relevant knowledge.Due to the differences in polity and system,the definitions of relevant concepts in Sydney and even the whole of Australia are different from those in China.Therefore,in the specific research and discussion,this study weakens the specific content of definitions,and tends to study both of them as part of social and cultural life and means of urban management.Secondly,through sorting out and discussing the classification and protection policies of Sydney’s historical and cultural heritage,and further discussing the relationship between Sydney’s urban public art and historical and cultural heritage.After summarizing and analyzing the art works,explore and summarize the performance methods of public art from the perspective of historical and cultural heritage protection,combine actual cases to discuss and study practical results in related fields.Thirdly,through the discussion of the practice results of public art in Sydney,this study discusses the important role played by public art in the inheritance of historical and cultural heritage in Sydney,especially the promotion of the inheritance and dissemination of the aboriginal historical and cultural heritage and multi-cultural heritage which are its symbols and actively promoted.Fourth,through the analysis of the public art of Sydney current relevant policy to the construction of urban space,from the concrete,detailed policy architecture to the corresponding achievements of urban public space construction,the study further defines the positive impact of Sydney public art and the policy for historical and cultural heritage protection.According to the analysis results,the current policy characteristics are effectively summarized.Fifth,based on the above research on the cases and policies of Sydney,the study focuses on the promotion of urban public art to the protection of historical and cultural heritage,and discusses the problems encountered in the development of urban public art in China under the current environment.From the perspective of practice,the study analyzes the advantages and functions that public art can play in heritage protection,as well as the mutual positive influence after the organic combination of the two,and draws a conclusion to provide certain guidance for current domestic practice.Finally,this dissertation puts forward that the public art in practice can help the history cultural heritage protection and inheritance and play a positive role in resolving city historical memory with "heavy" emotional factors and realizing the historical and cultural heritage protection of "public".This part points out the imperfectness in this research as well as suggestions in further work.This dissertation does the research with the approaches of literature research,case analysis,field research,etc.The study analyzes the status quo of Sydney public art through the overall view.In the process of fieldwork,this study collected a variety of local first-hand data from Sydney,such as street and city planning,various organization archives,committee meeting minutes,policy and planning documents,etc.In particular,the author conducted field research on public works of urban space in Sydney and made a large number of records.To sum up,the research is based on the text,extensively absorbing all possible academic means and resources,with a view to drawing scientific,objective and beneficial conclusions.The significance of this study lies in that,although the current domestic society generally agrees that the protection of historical and cultural heritage for the city or even the importance of the country,but the practice of historical and cultural heritage protection still faces many problems.Through the analysis and study of the practical experience and policy structure of Sydney in relevant fields,combined with a large number of cases from the perspective of theory of memory,cultural identity,combing Sydney public art as a means to participate in the achievements of the historical and cultural heritage protection,and proposing targeted policy under the guide of city public art construction can be used as a kind of effective means to advance the process of historical and cultural heritage protection,promote the historical and cultural heritage protection work,to inject more vitality,historical and cultural heritage and prompting the historical and cultural heritage protection and public art construction positive virtuous interaction between them,in order to solve the problems confronted by domestic protection of historical and cultural heritage provides new ideas and perspectives and to guide practice,to perfect the related policy and provide certain theoretical basis for the establishment of laws and regulations.
