Laitan ancient town is located in Jiufeng Mountain on the West Bank of Qujiang River,Hechuan District,Chongqing.It is 87 km away from the main urban area of Chongqing in the South and 32 km away from Hechuan City in the southwest.Its central geographical coordinates are 30°10’ north latitude and 106°29’ east longitude.It is the core part of Laitan Town,one of the first batch of famous historical and cultural towns in China.Laitan ancient town was built in the late Tang Dynasty and flourished in the Song Dynasty.It has been inherited and continued to this day.It has accumulated profound historical and cultural heritage and a large number of complete and relatively concentrated historical and cultural heritage.Laitan ancient town is divided into shanglaitan and xialaitan due to historical reasons.Xialaitan still retains traditional streets and buildings.Shanglaitan has the famous cliff statues of Laitan Er’fo Buddhist temple,as well as historical and cultural heritage such as ancient monument carvings,ancient archways and ancient tombs.Shanglaitan and xialaitan show the historical features of ancient towns in Southwest China.With the cultural interweaving and the change of times,the ancient town has also derived many intangible cultural heritages,such as Laitan legend,Laitan temple fair,etc.Through the field investigation and analysis of the historical and cultural heritage of the ancient town,it can be clear that Laitan ancient town not only has the military defense function,but also has multiple connotations and functions with the Buddhism and Zen culture as the core.The foreign culture and the local residents’ life and customs are integrated to form a characteristic ancient town with multi-layer cultural structure.The historical and cultural heritage of the ancient town is a precious cultural asset.It is the soul of the ancient town and needs to be strengthened and protected.The inheritance and protection of historical and cultural heritage need to increase the support of national laws,policies and social manpower.Today,it is an important condition for the development of tourism economy in ancient towns to advocate delve into cultural resources and the integration of historical and cultural heritage and tourism.Tourism development can support the heritage and protection of historical and cultural heritage.The heritage lucubration and protection in Laitan ancient town is complementary to the development of tourism economy,and also has great urgency.The heritage and protection of Laitan ancient town’s historical and cultural heritage also need to strengthen the government’s internal attention and external strict supervision,as well as the participation of the public.The protection and supervision of the government is the basic guarantee for the heritage and protection of the ancient town’s historical and cultural heritage.The participation of social forces and people is an important foundation for the long-term heritage of the ancient town and its culture.The ancient town residents are closely related to the history,culture and ecology of the ancient town,and grow together.Therefore,the participation of the people is an important basis for the protection and inheritance of the ancient town’s historical and cultural heritage,and also makes the task of protection and inheritance more effective with less effort.This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction,which explains the reason of choosing the topic,the significance of the research,the key points of the research and the research methods,combs the research history and literature,and distinguishes the related concepts.The second part introduces the natural conditions and cultural environment of Laitan ancient town.The natural conditions and cultural environment of the ancient town give birth to the historical and cultural heritage of the ancient town,which is also an important foundation for the formation,development and prosperity of the historical and cultural heritage.Through the analysis,it is concluded that the natural environment and human conditions of Laitan ancient town have two characteristics: one is the unity of natural environment and human environment;the other is the necessary elements of tourism development.The third part mainly introduces the historical and cultural heritage of Laitan ancient town and the current situation investigation,including the material cultural heritage and the intangible cultural heritage.As far as possible,the author records and arranges the status quo of the ancient town’s excellent cultural heritage,and objectively reflects the ancient town’s excellent historical and cultural resources and values.By combing the historical and cultural heritage,it can be clear that Laitan ancient town is a Buddhist Zen culture with military defense function and rich connotation,and the deep integration of foreign input culture and local folk customs,which is a characteristic cultural ancient town with outstanding characteristics and diverse historical connotation.However,according to the research results,there are still some problems and challenges in the heritage and protection of the ancient town’s historical and cultural heritage.The fourth part of the content,through the development of Laitan ancient town tourism advantages and problems,the government’s internal attention and external supervision,the participation of ancient town residents,from these three points of view to conduct research,analyze the problems encountered in the inheritance and protection of historical and cultural heritage of Laitan ancient town,put forward suggestions for better heritage and protection of the ancient town historical and cultural heritage.That is to say,it is necessary to establish the inheritance and protection system of the government,society and residents,so as to further implement the main responsibility of the government;regulate the responsibility of social institutions for the protection and utilization of cultural heritage;mobilize the ancient town residents to join in the heritage protection;adhere to the concept of sustainable development;and put forward specific working ideas in the aspects of the protection of Laitan ancient town and the construction of Chongqing historical and cultural city.The fifth part is the conclusion,which gives an overall overview of the characteristics and cultural connotation of Laitan ancient town,and puts forward reasonable suggestions for the protection,inheritance and utilization of the cultural heritage of the ancient town.It is pointed out that the "two streets and one lane" of Shuncheng Street,Huilong street and Er’fo lane with complete layout are the general characteristics of the Ming and Qing Dynasty architectural groups in Laitan ancient town.The rich material and cultural heritage in the ancient town is represented by the national key cultural relics protection unit,Er’fo temple,the municipal cultural relics protection unit Laitan stone archway,the district cultural relics protection unit Laitan ancient town City,etc.The unique intangible cultural heritage is represented by the folk stories reflecting the historical evolution of Laitan ancient town and the architectural legends of the Er’fo temples,as well as various Buddhist temple fairs and Laitan folk literature and art.It is emphasized that in the heritage,protection and utilization of Laitan ancient town’s cultural heritage,under the premise of abiding by relevant international and domestic conventions and regulations,a new situation of the ancient town should also be created according to its own characteristics.This paper puts forward five ways to establish the inheritance and protection system of government,society and residents.
