George Chinnery Painting Research

In recent years,with more and more art historians sorting out and studying the history of the eastward spread of Western painting in China,this subject began to receive renewed attention,especially the western painting skills brought by missionaries,Lang shining’s Qing palace paintings,and the western painting skills brought back by foreign students.However,scholars still lack new discoveries and views on the third wave of Western painting eastward spread caused by Chinnery in the19 th century There is no systematic combing and Research on Chinnery’s paintings.Based on the collection,selection and arrangement of Chinnery ’s painting materials and compositions at home and abroad,the author of this paper collects a large number of first-hand literature and paintings from different channels,which has a certain help and breakthrough in the study of Chinnery ’s painting.Through the study and analysis of Chinnery ’s paintings in various periods,this paper has experienced his rich and colorful life with a needle and thread,proved the importance and value significance of his works in the painting art world,and let people in Chinese mainland and even other regions know,understand and recognize him.This paper makes a vertical comparison between the works of famous painters in the history of Western painting and Chinnery’s works,makes a horizontal comparison with painters of the same age,and tries to make a multi-dimensional study of his paintings by using phenomenological and other philosophical methods and Chinese artistic spirit,so as to restore a forgotten Chinnery.This paper is divided into the first part and the second part.The first part consists of the first,second and third chapters,and the second part consists of the fourth,fifth and sixth chapters.The first chapter discusses the budding road of Chinnery ’s painting in England,and has a more detailed discussion on the artistic concepts "local chronicle painting","picturesque" and "sneaky height" that affect his life.The second chapter discusses Chinnery ’s departure from Britain for artistic exploration in India,from painting for fame and wealth in the early stage to returning to nature,feeling nature,and then to sketching nature in the later stage.He began to have his unique understanding and opinions on the application of media and techniques,the way to watch the world and things,and began to change with the awakening of his mind.The third chapter discusses the history of the eastward spread of Western painting in China,and returns the origin of the eastward spread of Western painting to Macao.Chinnery is the third wave promoter of the eastward spread of Western painting.The purpose is to put Chinnery on a larger stage for discussion.His painting has had an important influence and contribution to the eastward spread of Western painting.The fourth chapter of the second part discusses that after Chinnery arrived in China,his artistic skills became more and more mature.Through the concept of "picturesque" and Chinese artistic spirit,he made a new discovery,positioning and Discussion on his painting landscape painting,portrait painting,genre painting and self portrait,and brought academic rules and authentic western painting skills.The fifth chapter discusses Chinnery ’s sketch,discusses that he abandoned his past skills,returned to the most simple vision to paint the world,rose from an ordinary painter to a "poet",and showed unlimited concern for the people in the market,which is also an important enlightenment for the society.Moreover,from the perspective of the first person-Chinnery,lead us to a "street walk in the 19 th century" in Macao and feel the colorful aesthetic world in his eyes.The sixth chapter focuses on Chinnery ’s influence and contribution to future followers.Finally,it summarizes the poetic road of Chinnery ’s paintings from the aspects of the theme of painting,the way of viewing,the transformation of ideas and the techniques of skills.The people and objects depicted by Chinnery are not just his own creation,but the conformation that can be shared with the viewer.We test this picturesque world through his sincere,delicate and moving eyes.His paintings have changed the way we view things to a certain extent,enriched our visual experience,and inspired us to think and explore the lost corners of the world in the past,through his paintings,we can grasp the true face of the world to a certain extent.Therefore,he is not only an ordinary cartographic painter,but also a great artist who uses painting to write poetry and use his eyes to record history.
