Zhou Yang is an extremely important subject in the field of contemporary Chinese literary studies.He promoted the transformation of literature from "Modern" to"Contemporary".He participated in the construction of the contemporary literary system.He profoundly shaped the appearance of the contemporary literary world.There are two main reasons why Zhou Yang is chosen for this study.On the one hand,Zhou Yang was in a special position in the process of contemporary Chinese literary and exerted an important influence on it.On the other hand,as a literary individual,Zhou Yang is special.His thought,character,words and deeds,temperament and other personal characteristics reflect the complex relationship between the individual and the times.His life experience and ups and downs of honor and disgrace also deeply reflect the complex relationship between the individual and the times.Therefore,this paper chooses from "Individual" and "The relationship between the individual and the times" two dimensions to carry on the elaboration.This paper attempts to re-understand Zhou Yang and his role in the process of contemporary Chinese literature on the basis of re-reading historical materials and crossexamination of literature and history.In the article structure,this article includes the introduction,the upper part,the lower part and the conclusion.The title of the upper part is "Zhou Yang and the process of contemporary Chinese literature".The title of the lower part is "Zhou Yang as a phenomenon in the history of contemporary Chinese literature ".The upper part is divided into three chapters and the lower part is divided into two chapters.The first,second and third chapters examine Zhou Yang’s literary activities and influence in different periods of literary history.The first chapter focuses on Zhou Yang’s role in the construction and consolidation of the literary and artistic order in the "Liberated areas"with the Speech at the Forum of Art and Literature in Yan’an(《在延安文艺座谈会上的讲话》)as the core,and then analyzes the influence of this new order on the macro-literary process.During the"Liberated area" period,Zhou Yang participated in the creation and revision of the Speech at the Forum ofArt and Literature in Yan’an.He edited Marxism and Literature(《马克思主义与文艺》).He organized and created the opera the white-haired girl(《白毛女》).He discovered writers such as Zhao Shuli(赵树理)and promoted works such as Qiong Ren Le(《穷人乐》).He promoted the establishment of the authority of the Speech at the Forum ofArt and Literature in Yan’an in theory and practice.He finally put the Speech at the Forum ofArt and Literature in Yan’an as the core of the literary and artistic model to the national.The second chapter mainly studies Zhou Yang’s literary activities in the period of "Seventeen years”(“十七年”),analyzes Zhou Yang’s role in constructing the literary system and shaping the appearance of the literary world,as well as the difficulties and setbacks he encountered in the relevant literary practice.Zhou Yang promoted the process of“Integration”of“Seventeen years”literature.On the one hand,he tried to overcome the conceptualization and formalization in his literary creation,actively carried out the policy of“Shuang Bai”(“双百”方针),and blocked the drowning of literature and art by ideology to some extent.On the other hand,he obeyed the will of political authority,led the critical movement of literature and art,and promoted the development of literature and art towards high ideology.The third chapter mainly investigates the role that Zhou Yang played in promoting the establishment of the "New period"(“新时期”)in literature and art,as well as the characteristics and connotation of Zhou Yang’s theoretical exploration in the"New period".On this basis,the paper summarizes Zhou Yang’s contribution and limitation in the literary process of the“New period”.After the end of the“Cultural Revolution"(“文革”),Zhou Yang took an active part in the tide of the times of " Bringing order out of Chaos"(“拨乱反正”)and established the concept of the "New period" in literature and art as an authority,he participated in the establishment of the " New period"literary system and the clearing up of the historical problems in the literary and artistic circles,and made a new exploration of the Marxist theory,which promoted the development of the"New period" literature.The fourth and fifth chapters take the specific historical time and space as the background,inspects "Zhou Yang" as the literature individual characteristic,and the literature history connotation which he reflects.The fourth chapter focuses on Zhou Yang’s great transformation from a common left-wing literary theorist to a“literary tsar”,and examines the causes,manifestations and practical effects of this transformation.On this basis,the paper analyzes the inherent relationship between the individual’s own growth and the macro-literary process.Zhou Yang was the first person who introduced the Soviet Union’s theory of literature and art into China,which enabled him to stand proudly at the head of the times under the literary background of "Learning from the Soviet Union" and to lead the development direction of Chinese literature.At the same time,Zhou Yang brought together a group of cultural people known as "Zhou Yang Men"(“周扬们”).Through their joint literary activities,profoundly shaped the appearance of the contemporary literary world.In the fifth chapter,the paper focuses on Zhou Yang’s "double faced" phenomenon.On the basis of the analysis of the causes and characteristics of this phenomenon and its concrete manifestations in different historical periods,this paper summarizes the essence and significance of Zhou Yang’s "double faced" phenomenon in literary history.On the one hand,the Chinese traditional culture,the enlightenment culture,the revolutionary culture and the communist culture that Zhou Yang accepted created his layered cultural personality structure,which resulted in the "Dual nature" of Zhou Yang’s thought and behavior.On the other hand,the inherent contradiction between Zhou Yang’s identity as a cultural official and his intellectual identity led him into a conflict between politics and literature,which had a profound impact on his literary work.In addition,the phenomenon of "Old Age Zhou Yang"(“晚年周扬”)is a reflection of the phenomenon of "double faced" in a specific space-time dimension,which reflects Zhou Yang’s contradiction and complexity in the process of promoting the "Subjectivity" of literature in the "New period".Zhou Yang’s life is deeply intertwined with literature,politics,and revolution,which profoundly shaped Zhou Yang’s personality as a literary individual and also caused Zhou Yang’s own contradiction.Zhou Yang’s personality had a direct impact on the process of contemporary Chinese literary.The research on the proposition of "Zhou Yang and contemporary Chinese literature" not only helps us to examine the past more deeply in the literature level,but also inspires us to think about the present and the future of literature. |
