Going Beyond "The Dualism"

If and how we can go beyond the “dualism” mindset is becoming a key issue related to the breakthrough and innovation of Chinese aesthetics and theory of art in the new century,but on the other hand,going beyond this kind of mindset is not easy.“Dualism” mindset is working effectively in realistic lives and it has been used widely within science and social practice realm.It has fairly important value and is the mindset that people always use.The “dualism” mindset is also used vastly in philosophy,aesthetics,theory of literature and art for studying and researching.People use this kind of mindset to build their theory-cognitive system,to carry on logical thinking,and to construct their theory system of the aesthetics.The “dualism” mindset is the presentation of human-beings’ intelligence,a kind of comprehension about the relationship between human-beings and the world,and provides structure and order for human-beings.By the “dualism” mindset,we divide any kind of phenomenon into two heterogeneous parts and then abstract antagonistic categories from this two heterogeneous parts.With those antagonistic categories,people get to know themselves while getting familiarized with this world.But,this kind of cognition of the world was based on the cost of diversity and richness of phenomenon.The aesthetics realm itself,however,is a realm full of “sense of belonging” and has “a deeply moving effect”,It always demonstrates the characteristic which is harmonious、free and integral to each other in the rich and vivid aesthetic experience,it has the inborn quality of going beyond the “dualism” mindset naturally,therefore,going beyond the “dualism” mindset instead of conceptual inquiry,to gain understanding about beauty based on the aesthetics phenomenon itself directly,is the “secret desire” of “aesthetics”,also one of the ways for the discovery and innovation of the contemporary Chinese aesthetics.Going beyond “dualism” is an hidden also visible clue in the modern and contemporary development of Chinese aesthetics,in all kinds of theories about aesthetic and art,the most popular ways of going beyond the “dualism” mindset always being as“in ones” or “mergence” model,such as “subject and object in one”、 “ content and form in one”、 “thoughts and emotions merge into each other ”,and so on.This kind of“going beyond” is the “post-dualism” mindset which means “being apart firstly then in one”.This demonstrates the inherent requirements of going beyond “the dualism” in aesthetic activities.In the same time,Heidegger’s phenomenology of existence and the relevant theories in Chinese traditional culture have opened a new constructed realm of the “pre-dualism” for Chinese contemporary aesthetics exploration and innovation.This new realm has been named as “origin of art works” by Heidegger,it is a poetic world that is hidden naturally in the aesthetics realm,also an “inner world” which is closer to the relative experience of the aesthetics and arts.This two kinds of surpassing ways have different kinds of demonstration in different kinds of aesthetic theories,and have been becoming available resources in innovation and exploration of contemporary Chinese aesthetics mindset.We need to know where we came from for having precise orientations about ourselves,while need to touch the frontier line to locate the limits of ourselves,then recognize direction for next effort.The discoveries and study on the innovation and research of Chinese contemporary aesthetics’ mindset is just a process that gets into from origin trends,then explore the next direction after collection and summarizing relative aesthetics theories.Going beyond the “dualism” mindset is a clue that goes through the past and the future of Chinese aesthetics,and it has outlined the feature of Chinese aesthetics by the complex interaction of different aesthetics theories in different period.Going through the angle of view of going beyond“ the dualism”,this paper is going to review systematically the representative minds of going beyond “dualism”involved in contemporary Chinese aesthetic theories,find out its clues and show out its trends,also is a try-out for offering point-of-views and references to contemporary Chinese aesthetics mindset’s innovation and break-through.
