Research On The Internationalization Of Character Reform From The Perspective Of International Political Sociology

Since the birth of nationalism,language has been regarded as one of the core signs of ethnic distinction,and also constitute the foundation of ethnic identity together with special phenomena such as tradition and history.As the most crucial internal spirits and external forms of language,character play an important role in the cultural development and innovation of the nation-state.Character reform might even determine the process of cultural modernization and internationalization because of its irreplaceable function in the national language policy.As the key components of cultural systems,language policy and language planning are not only related to the cultural prosperity and stability of domestic society,but also widely affect international image and foreign exchanges of the nation-state.This article focuses on the internationalization of character reform from the perspective of international political sociology,which intends to research the internationalization of character reform and then reproduce the international political and social factors behind it based on the theory of political science.In order to study the internationalization of character reform,this article mainly adopts the approach of international political sociology with constructivism as the main body,emphasizing the crucial role of language in identity construction and collective identity,international interaction and inter-subjectivity.The study selects four variables: the construction of national sovereignty,foreign exchanges,character reform actors as well as international standards.On this basis,this article proposes the hypothesis on the internationalization of character reform: it promotes the evolution of national lingua franca and is also the objective need to safeguard national sovereignty construction and identity;it is affected by the country’s foreign relations and has an effect on the construction of the country’s international discourse power and the maintenance of international image;the direction of related policies is subjectively influenced by the character reform actors,including ideology,governance goals,identity and other factors;it represents a direction for the development of international standardization of language and character,and shows the normalization and standardization of international social interaction.Throughout the courses of modern history in East Asian countries,in addition to economic and social modernization,cultural modernization is also on the agenda,and it is becoming more and more urgent.This article selects three countries,China,Japan,and Vietnam to analyze the process of internationalization of modern character reforms,combing the main features of modern character reforms in the three countries at different historical periods.By studying the impact of four variables in the internationalization process of character reform in the three countries,the research framework of this article is finally verified,and the common and special variables that affect the internationalization of character reform are obtained.It further reveals that the internationalization of character reform is under the influence of the objective laws of character reform,at the same time it is also affected by the internal political,economic and social development of the nation-state,and to a certain extent is affected by more advanced international political and economic laws.After summarizing the research of the full text,the following conclusions are drawn: Among the development of many East Asian countries,some countries have chosen the character reform,and some have no choice.The final results of the development of the countries carrying out the character reform are not exactly the same.Some have retained the national characters and developed new phonetic forms using pinyin solutions,while others have abandoned the original characters and implemented completely Latinized reforms.The different situations of these character reforms are caused by construction of national sovereignty,foreign exchanges,actors of character reform and international standards.The internationalization of character reform is closely related to cultural modernization.It is a key issue for a country to deal with the relationship between domestic politics and international society.One of the targets of modernization development is to integrate into the international society and participate more deeply in international governance.Hence,the internationalization of the character reform has gradually standardized the national language.In fact,it is the process of national internationalization providing the necessary bridges and bonds for international exchanges.The internationalization of character reform is a major and critical issue that conforms to the national strategy to promote the modernization of national cultural undertakings.It not only affects how to strike a better balance between the modernization of traditional national culture and political,economic and social development in China but also has a strong theoretical guidance for the construction of China’s national language ability and discourse system.More importantly,it is quite inspiring for serving the national strategic needs,increasing the role of Chinese in the people-to-people communication of the countries along the “Belt and Road” as well as promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
