From Road To Spectacle:A Study Focuses On The Evolvement Of The Yunnan Section Of Yunnan-Vietnam Railway

The Yunnan-Vietnam Railway opened to traffic,which assumed the transportation duties both inside and outside China,played an important role in different historical period.With the development of transportation technology and the improvement of social demand,Yunnan-Vietnam Railway has been gradually replaced in term of the functional significance of a transportation line.In the process of "transformation",the hundred-year meter gauge began to evolve from road to spectacle,showing a diversified state under the intervention of various forces.This paper aims to analyze the complicated Yunnan-Vietnam railway through the deconstruction of complex,reason,process,mechanism and consequences of its evolution,to explore the active intervention between people and the railway,and to provide a reference path and mechanism for the protection and development of cultural heritage.This paper analyzes theoretically with three core concepts of things,landscape and spectacle.Combined with the discussion of landscape construction in media,this paper focuses on the transformation of Yunnan-Vietnam railway from road to spectacle with the clue of the causal relationship between man and object adopting three research methods,literature research,filed study and media content analysis.Yunnan-Vietnam Railway,as a modern road,has the characteristics of spatial power and territorialization,which plays an important role in geopolitics.The interweaving of road landscape and daily life creates the social relations and local culture with functional meaning as the core.With the passage of time,the relationship between things and people also changed,which urges Yunnan-Vietnam Railway to explore a new way of existence.In the process of transformation of Yunnan-Vietnam railway,the selection and presentation of specific geographical spots reflects relevant social ideology.Landscape reconstruction,in fact,is a biased value endowed and cultural expression.The construction mode of commercialization will indeed cover the reality.However,from the perspective of continuation of the existence of things,the transformation under human intervention continues the relationship between things and people,which is more important than keep it real.In the transformation from landscape to spectacle,the transformation of material form and the conferment of symbolic value are indispensable.Media played a crucial aided role in this process by helping people in modern society to understand things beyond their own perception and constructing the virtual entity of Yunnan-Vietnam Railway,which could strengthen and maintain the spectacle order.The evolution of Yunnan-Vietnam railway from road to spectacle is under the specific social and historical context,demonstrated with the different practice of things.The transformation takes the conversion of functional meaning as a clue,basis on the reconstruction of physical form,con-notates value conferment,accelerates by the virtual entity shaped by media and includes the participation of individuals,groups and countries to complete the expression of culture and meanings.It needs discovery and reconstruction on three levels with the operation of power and strong capital intervention to transform road to spectacle.In this process,the historical and cultural value of The Yunnan-Vietnam railway was embezzled and transformed,and the appearance of shadowing was inevitable.The key lies in the attempt to construct identity with the help of shadowing.
