| The application of woody forest products has been expected to provide considerable carbon sequestration and emission reduction value,which has important significance in the process of achieving the"carbon peaking and carbon neutrality"goal.The further development and application of wood-based and bamboo-based building materials,such as wood-based panels,as important wood forest products,will help promote carbon peaking in the wood industry.Among wood-based panel products,wood and bamboo scrimber materials can realize the big use of small wood and the good use of inferior wood,and solve the problem of high-value utilization of artificial forest and bamboo,which has been the leading product in the wood-based panel industry in China.Research on the carbon footprint of wood-based panels based on Life Cycle Assessment(LCA)can be used to quantitatively prove their environmental friendliness,and the key factors of environmental load can be found and improved.Under the background of“carbon peaking and carbon neutrality”,a systematic study was carried out to evaluate the carbon footprint of wood-based forest products,taking the products of scrimber products and plywood products as examples,which can provide a theoretical basis for the scientific quantification of the carbon footprint of wood-based panel products,and can also provide direct support for the carbon footprint data system of wood-based panel products in China.The study took four wood-based panel products,including deep carbon bamboo scrimber flooring,shallow carbon bamboo scrimber flooring,bamboo plywood formwork,and wood plywood formwork based on the ISO 14067 carbon footprint standard general principles.The framework of the carbon footprint assessment method for wood-based panel products based on LCA software e Footprint,which was developed domestically,was constructed based on field investigation,practical measurement data,and CLCD,the background database of Chinese native life cycle,a“Cradle-to-Gate”life cycle model and inventory data set for wood-based panels were developed to quantify the carbon footprint of raw materials during transportation and production.The life cycle carbon footprint and carbon emission reduction effect of the wood-based panel“raw material supply-product production-product use”were evaluated,and the carbon footprint traceability system was constructed and verified.This paper aimed to systematically establish a set of carbon footprint assessment technology systems of wood-based panel products based on LCA.The main conclusions were as follows:(1)The framework of the carbon footprint assessment method based on LCA was established,including target and scope definition,inventory analysis,life cycle modeling,and result interpretation.1m3 of deep carbon bamboo scrimber flooring,shallow carbon bamboo scrimber flooring,bamboo plywood formwork,and wood plywood formwork were set as functional units of the study.The system boundary was"Cradle-to-Gate",which included the stages of raw material acquisition and transportation,product production and storage and distribution,and it was extended to the front end and back end respectively,and the carbon sequestration quantity of raw material supply and the product itself was considered comprehensively.(2)The carbon footprint of wood-based panel products at the production stage was precisely quantified.An LCA impact assessment and result interpretation were conducted for four wood-based panel products.The carbon footprints of 1m3 of deep carbon bamboo scrimber flooring,shallow carbon bamboo scrimber flooring,bamboo plywood formwork,and wood plywood formwork were 1845.99 kg CO2e,1570.85 kg CO2e,1435.55 kg CO2e,and 245.44 kg CO2e,respectively.Further sensitivity analysis showed that the adhesive used during the production phase was the most sensitive item in the inventory of the four typical wood-based panel products.(3)The carbon footprint of wood-based panels was evaluated by coupling the carbon emissions of wood-based panels production with the carbon storage of wood-based panels.The life cycle carbon footprints of 1m3 of deep carbon bamboo scrimber flooring,shallow carbon bamboo scrimber flooring,bamboo plywood formwork,and wood plywood formwork were 962.23 kg CO2e,677.86 kg CO2e,640.23 kg CO2e,and-77.41 kg CO2e,respectively,and the life cycle carbon footprints of bamboo scrimber flooring and plywood formwork were significantly lower than that of other materials,which showed good potential to replace emission reduction.(4)The carbon footprint traceability system architecture of wood-based panel products was constructed based on blockchain and Internet of Things technology.Through modular decomposition,distributed storage,and integrated presentation,the clear and transparent accounting process and reliable and searchable carbon footprint data were ensured.The verification results of the example data showed that the platform can realize the efficient use of accounting results,and the carbon footprint accounting method,raw data list,processing enterprise information,and detailed process flow of each module can be traced. |
