Research On Professionalization Of Counselors In Private Colleges And Universities

Since its beginning in the 1980 s,the private higher education has made great progress in China after nearly 40 years' rapid development.According to the education statistics from the website of the Ministry of Education in 2017,the number of undergraduates in private colleges and universities in China accounts for 22.82% of the total number of students in general colleges and universities in China.The rapid development of private colleges and universities has made positive contributions to the modernization of education as well as the economic and social development in China,and has become an important part of socialist education.However,due to various kinds of reasons,there are also some problems in the process of the development of private colleges and universities.Compared with the economic and social development of our country and the people's demand for high-quality educational resources,there is still a big gap compared with the first-class universities at home and abroad.As the backbone of ideological and political education in private colleges and universities,the construction of counselors is difficult.At present,there are some problems,such as unreasonable structure,insufficient stability,insufficient professional ability,prominent sense of job burnout,weak sense of work achievement,and imperfect internal management system,which seriously weaken the counselors' sense of belonging to schools and their recognition of counselors' profession.It hinders the professional development of counselors and affects the overall quality of education in private colleges and universities.General Secretary Xi Jinping once emphasized that,although private colleges and universities are different from public universities in terms of school-running mode,organizational structure and operation mode,there are no exceptions in sticking to the correct political orientation and educational orientation.Faced with the requirements of cultivating new people in the era of national rejuvenation in the new era,the healthy and sustainable development of private colleges and Universities under the new situation,and the large group of college students with distinct personalities and characteristics in the new environment,it is urgent to build a professional counselor team with both moral and intellectual abilities.The ideological and behavioral characteristics of students in private colleges and universities should be strengthened,so does the management of students' education.Still not only the pertinence and effectiveness of Ideological and political education but also the quality of personnel training should be improved,so that the parents can be assured,the students can benefit from it and people can be satisfied with the education.Guided by Marxist theory,fully drawing on the contents of management and pedagogy,following the requirements of the system and policies issued by the Central Committee of the CPC,the State Council and the Ministry of Education,this paper insists on problem orientation,and conducts in-depth analysis in accordance with the logic of "putting forward problems,analyzing problems and solving problems".On the basis of a comprehensive review of relevant research results,this paper conducts in-depth analysis through guidance to private colleges and universities.Through the theoretical explanation,value exploration and current situation analysis of the professionalization of counselors in private colleges and universities,the author has put forward the objective content and effective path of the professionalization of counselors in private colleges and universities,which can provide reference for the realization of the professionalization development of counselors in private colleges and universities,and thus provide guarantee for the improvement of the quality of personnel training in private colleges and universities.Specifically,after explaining the origin,research status,research ideas and methods of the research in the introduction part,this paper mainly studies the related problems of the professionalization of counselors in private colleges from five aspects,and the main contents are as follows.The first part is about the theoretical explanation.Through the analysis of the basic concepts of occupation and professionalization,the meaning of the profession and professionalization of counselors in private colleges and universities is clarified.Especially the analysis of the particularity of the professionalization of counselors in private colleges and universities is the logical starting point of this study.From the perspective of counselors in private colleges and universities,this paper points out that the essence of professionalization of counselors in private colleges and universities is the unity process of managers and educators,students and students themselves,professionalization and professionalization,ideality and development,and then analyzes the particularity of the system,the particularity of policies,the particularity and ways of the professionalization of Counselors in private colleges and universities.The particularity lays a theoretical foundation for this study.The second part is about the value exploration.The professionalization of counselors is of great significance to private colleges and universities.This paper systematically expounds the value of this study from the macro to micro perspectives of insisting on the correct direction of running schools,maintaining healthy and sustainable development,innovating and exploring ideological and political education,and promoting the construction of counselors.To realize the professionalization of counselors is an eager requirement for private colleges to adhere to the correct direction of running schools,an urgent need for promoting the healthy and sustainable development of private colleges and universities,an inevitable requirement for improving the scientific level of Ideological and political work of college students in private colleges and universities,and an inherent need for building a team of counselors with both moral and intellectual abilities,which has important practical value.The third part is the analysis of the current situation.This paper investigates the current situation of professionalization of counselors in some private colleges and universities throughout the country,and analyzes the progress of professionalization of counselors in private colleges and universities.It also points out the existing problems such as the unreasonable team structure,insufficient team stability,lack of professional ability,prominent sense of job burnout and lack of job achievement and then analyzes the reasons such as the management system constraints,inadequate policy support,unclear functional boundaries,lack of career planning,inadequate development channels,inadequate professional identity and so on,which will provide practical basis for future research.The fourth part is the target content.Combining with the requirements of "Professional Competence Standards for College Counselors(Temporary)",the paper puts forward that the goal of professionalization of counselors in private colleges and universities is to build a team of counselors with firm beliefs,dedication to work,outstanding abilities,excellent quality,reasonable structure and relative stability.According to the stage of professionalization,it is divided into primary,intermediate and senior objectives,and it is divided into single objectives and comprehensive objectives according to the development of practical work,which set achievable expectations for the professionalization of counselors in private colleges and universities.This paper points out that the main contents of professionalization are quality of professional accomplishment,professionalization of professional qualification,standardization of work management,standardization of professional behavior,standardization of professional language and ordering of career paths,which provide guidance for the professionalization of counselors in private colleges and universities.The fifth part is the effective path.This is the foothold of this study,and it puts forward countermeasures and suggestions mainly from four aspects for private college counselors to achieve professionalization: First,strengthen access management,standardize the entry threshold,optimize the access procedures,and select strictly from the very beginning,to lay the foundation for the realization of professionalization.Second,improve the training system,through strengthening pre-job and on-the-job training,focusing on on-the-job training,strengthening academic discussions,to improve the professional quality and ability of counselors.Thirdly,optimize an incentive system through doing a good job in career design,carrying out scientific assessment,improving salary and treatment optimization,to provide motivation for the professionalization of counselors.Fourthly,implement the security system focusing on the institutional mechanisms,policy orientation,development channels and other aspects,which requires the joint efforts of the education authorities and private universities to promote the realization of the professionalization of counselors.
