Western newspapers represented by Illustrated London News have spread a largenumber of images related to China.These images are not only images of Chinacreated by Western painters,but also images from China.In this paper,theoverseas dissemination of modern Chinese images is studied in the broad scopeof art history,and the specific answer is: How did Illustrated London Newsdisseminate Chinese images?Under different material and technical conditions,how does the technique of expression differ?In the process of dissemination,what kind of evaluation system is reflected?How has its expression and spreadchanged over the centuries?In order to answer the above research questions,this paper discusses from threeaspects,which constitute the three main chapters of this paper.The secondchapter takes architecture and clothing as examples to analyze the Chineseimages presented by pictorial prints.The third chapter shows the selectionstandard and value orientation of Chinese painting in pictorial publication byanalyzing the selection of Chinese painting in pictorial images.The fourth chaptershows the pictures of China in the column of Pictorial by analyzing the news andadvertisements of Pictorial.Through the answers to the above questions,this paper summarizes the threestages of pictorial image communication in China.1842-1889 is the initial stage.Images of China during this period were mostlyincidental to written reports.1890-1919 is a transitional period.During thisperiod,pictorial reports on Chinese images gradually increased and began toregard Chinese art as an independent and valuable aspect to report.1920-1949 isthe stage of large-scale transmission.The concept of Chinese art is clearly andindependently presented in many images,and Chinese art once became the maincontent of Chinese image reports.
