With the rapid development of China in the field of economics, technology and culture,Chinese has attracted more and more attention from the international community, which has aroused many language learners' interest in Chinese, and the phenomenon of “Chinese fever”,has emerged in various parts of the world.Take Thailand as an example: because I am Thai, the impact of Chinese on Thailand is basically clear to me.Modern Chinese language has affected the whole labor market in Thailand.People in all walks of life need staffs that have a basic knowledge of Chinese to work. Therefore,a large number of Thais are learning Chinese. But as a matter of fact,we find that many Thai people who have Chinese foundation still have great problems in their Chinese ability. For example, there are communication barriers due to differences of culture perception, manners and customs, thinking patterns and values between China and Thailand, which leads to the misunderstanding and culture conflicts. Thus, guided by the cultural and spiritual semantic field of “harmony between man and nature”,“sense of harmony”,“integrity” “sense of suffering” and “retribution for cause and effect",this dissertation conducts comparative analysis of the most classical meaning of Chinese and Thai idioms to explore the common semantic characteristics, semantic system and semantic relations in the narrow sense and generalization with the method of semantic theory. In addition, the idioms have the historical connotation of national nature, but also reflect the different characteristics of the Chinese and Thai ethnic styles, cultural characteristics, lifestyles, values, thinking patterns and religious beliefs. The results of the study can promote mutual understanding between the two sides and achieve better communication effect. There are six chapters in this dissertation:Chapter ? mainly made a preliminary analysis of the current research situation of Chinese and Thai idioms, and elaborates the research background, research purpose, theoretical basis, research ideas, research methods and corpus sources.Chapter ? firstly analyses the definition of Chinese and Thai idioms and their sources, and explores the similarities and differences of the definition of Chinese and Thai idioms. Then the source of Chinese and Thai idioms is profoundly analyzed and summarized.Chapter ? introduces the categories of Chinese and Thai idioms in semantic field and culture spirit. The culture of Thai and Chinese could be present through the description of level of the semantic field.Chapter ? is mainly about typical Chinese and Thai idioms that related to the concept of “harmony between man and nature”,“sense of harmony”,“integrity” “sense of suffering”and “retribution for cause and effect".This chapter explores the broad generic relationship between similar phenomena of Chinese and Thai idioms, and reveals the semantic relationship between Chinese and Thai idioms in terms of hyponymy, homology, opposition and homology. These semantic relations reflect the common semantic features, semantic system, semantic relevance and hierarchy of Chinese and Thai idioms, and reflect the cultural characteristics and spirit of China and Thailand.Chapter ? mainly collects and chooses the most classical Chinese and Thai idioms from five aspects: “Harmony between man and nature”,“sense of harmony”,“integrity”“sense of suffering” and “retribution for cause and effect".It uses the theory of semantic field to study the Chinese and Thai idioms in the narrow field of Chinese and Thai idioms,in order to explore the meaning field and proximity of Chinese and Thai idioms' s Meaning field, antonymy field and analogy field.Chapter ? is the conclusion, where the findings are presented and the reference meaning.
