As a close neighbor of the two Eastern countries, China and Japan, which always have close cultural heritage connection ,reflected in the painting, Japanese painting has long been the influence of Chinese painting.Yet Japanese painting was getting rid of the influence of China in modern times. Instead, it begins to absorb nutrients in order to seek a breakthrough in western painting and embarked on the construction of a new road. In process of modernization in the second half of the 19th century to twentieth century the modern concept of "Chinese Painting”and" Japanese painting" face same cultural background, the challenge of Western painting, and the urgency of self-identity, but differ in creation.In this article, the comparison of the revolution progress of Chinese and Japanese painting in 20th century shows that china and Japan both has strong national cultural self-identity in the innovation progress, yet they experienced in practice between the very two different ways.The innovation path of Chinese painting is diverse, which means plenty of art forms emerged form the works of many individual artists instead of chasing a single art form and those reflect the broad inclusion of Chinese culture; But Japanese painting takes a road of Nationalization of the new style which clearly confirms the characteristics of self-position . Therefore, Japanese painting formed a high degree of unity of the modern aesthetic style and reflected the change activity of Japan among island culture.
