future scholar through"combination of diseases and syndromes",using specific prescription to treat every different stage of the disease,in the field of traditional Chinese medicine.Method1.Theoretical research section1.1.Collation of relevant Chinese medicine's literature records of non-small cell lung cancer written by the sages of ancient medicine and famous doctors of different dynasties.Mainly organizes the related disease's names,etiology,pathogenesis,syndrome differentiation,treatment's principle,prescription and herb used.1.2.Retrieve and summarize the recent research reports of non-small cell lung cancer in the past ten years and integrate different research advances.1.3.Summarize the unique insights of Professor Teo Eng Kiat on non-small cell lung cancer.Mainly summarizes on the different views on the Chinese medicine etiology,pathogenesis,syndrome differentiation and treatment principle of non-small cell lung cancer.2.Clinical research section2.1.Collect,organise,and analyse all cases of non-small cell lung cancer diagnosed and treated by Professor Teo Eng Kiat in the past fifteen years,based on the three years of mentoring by Professor Teo Eng Kiat.Summarise observe mainly on gender and age,the incidence of a variety of different symptoms,common symptoms,common used prescriptions,common used herb pairs,the distribution of the four qi,five flavours,and patient.Result1.Discussion of Professor Teo Eng Kiat's understanding in non-small cell lung cancer pathological evolution process,as the etiology and pathogenesis are mainly due to deficiency of spleen qi,while cancer toxicity,phlegm,blood stasis and heat are secondary causes.These secondary causes will interact with one and another to form a physical mass as a malignant tumour,seizing the patient's essence,harming their health.However,the disease will occur,only when low immunity unable to protect ones against the cancer toxicity.2.Describe in detail how Professor Teo Eng Kiat distinguishes and treats various common symptoms and complications of non-small cell lung cancer clinically.Such example are cough,hemoptysis,rash and constipation,etc.and discussed Professor Teo Eng Kiat dialectical thoughts and herbal formula usage experience on treating these symptoms.3.Analysis of medical records and medications:There were 85 patients who met the standards,42 were males,accounting for 49.41%of the total number of cases,and 43 were females,accounting for 50.59%of the total number of cases.The age is about 29-92,and the average age is about 66.41 years.There were 314 clinical symptoms in 85 patients;the total herbs were 182 kind.The main category of herbs used are herbs that can be used for replenish qi,heat clearing,detoxifying,warming,blood circulation,clear blood stasis,reduce phlegm and nodule;Warm herbs are the main type,followed by cold herbs,the sweet flavour is the most common,accounting for 37.28%,the bitter flavour is 33.43%.The spleen meridian is the most common,which accounts for 24.59%and secondly,the lung meridian accounted for 22.99%.Conclusion"Deficiency of spleen qi and stagnation of phlegm,heat,blood stasis,toxicity" are the pathogenesis of non-small cell lung cancer,while deficiency of spleen qi is the prerequisite for the onset of the disease and could be found throughout all the stages of the disease.Cancer toxicity is a key element in the etiology and pathogenesis of non-small cell lung cancer,while phlegm and blood stasis are an additional condition for the formation of cancer toxicity.In terms of treatment,using various treatment principle,treatment of the spleen and lungs simultaneously,and using of both clearing and nourishing method.Based on the clinical characteristics of the lung cancer,a treatment principle based on "nourishing spleen,clearing lung" was established,and special nourishing spleen,clearing lung decoction was designed for the treatment.This reflect Professor Teo Eng Kiat's unique
