Transportation system is an important factor affecting the regional economic and social development and spatial pattern evolution. As an important lifeline of national economic construction, railway transportation plays an irreplaceable role until now.The Yangtze River Delta region(hereinafter referred to as "Yangtze River Delta")is the leading area of China’s regional integration development. In 2018,it officially rose to the national strategy and became an important pole of China’s regional spatial layout in the new era.To meeting the new opportunities and new requirements of regional integration development in Yangtze River Delta,it is time to fully understand the important responsibility and key role of transportation system, and deeply explore the basic characteristics, development changes and effect mechanism of regional railway passenger transport network. As the model of China’s developed urban agglomerations, the evolution of railway passenger transport system in the Yangtze River Delta largely depicts the general law of railway system development in urban agglomerations, which has certain theoretical and practical significance in guiding the construction of regional railway organization network and optimizing regional spatial structure.Taking the Yangtze River Delta as an study case, this paper selects the railway passenger transport network of cities above prefecture level as the research object, adopts the methods of mathematical model, spatial measurement and GIS spatial analysis, then follows the logical thinking of "basic pattern-evolution process-spatial effect-internal mechanism",finally reveals the spatial-temporal evolution, spatial effect and internal mechanism of railway passenger transport network in the Yangtze River Delta from 2000 to 2020.The main conclusion of this study included:(1)Clarifying the structural characteristics and evolution process of different types of railway passenger transport network in the Yangtze River Delta since 2000.The ordinary passenger transport frequency and fast passenger transport frequency in the Yangtze River Delta have declined from the dominant position to the subordinate position, while the high-speed rail passenger transport frequency has experienced the evolution process from scratch, then germination to prosperity. The "V" shaped spatial pattern with Beijing Shanghai and Shanghai Kunming high-speed rail channels as the north and South wings has existed for a long time.Cities along the channels such as Shanghai,Nanjing,Xuzhou and Hangzhou are in the center of the passenger transport network. However, with the speed-up of the railway, especially the extension and densification of the high-speed railway network, the multi center and balanced characteristics of the regional railway passenger transport layout continue to appear.(2)Using more accurate composite accessibility analysis method to explore the development and change of railway traffic spatial pattern in Yangtze River Delta.During the research period, the spatial pattern of regional composite accessibility is stable, and the high accessibility areas are mainly distributed along the Beijing Shanghai high-speed rail channel, showing an obvious "core-periphery" structure. The level of composite accessibility shows a fluctuating rise trend,Shanghai,Nanjing,Hangzhou,Hefei and other key cities get more space-time compression benefits than small and medium-sized cities. The change of transportation network also plays an important role in expanding the scope of urban isochronous circle, and it has more promoting function in high-level cities than other cities, forming an overall development pattern of "inner city linkage, peripheral daily communication".(3)Identifying the internal competition and substitution effects of railway passenger transport network in Yangtze River Delta. From the perspective of time sequence, the competitive advantage degree of overlapping network has roughly experienced the development process from low-level passenger transport network to high-level network advantage exchange. In the face of the upgrading of railway system, the time sequence of central cities is also significantly earlier than that of regional periphery cities. The substitution effect can be divided into four types, fast substitution and low substitution have some advantages in the early stage, and the complete substitution network has become the dominant type after 2015.The substitution effect between different types of railway trains in different periods has obvious displacement phenomenon in space, but the main form is relatively high-level train network replacing low-level network.(4)Describing the impact of the evolution of railway passenger transport network in the Yangtze River Delta on the rationality of passenger travel in different regions.Among them, the rationality of choosing to travel by express train is relatively low under the scenario of "speed-up railway",and the rationality of choosing to travel by high-speed railway is generally high under the scenario of "high-speed railway".But as time goes on,the rationality of the two scenarios is on the rise.On the whole, the impact of railway train structure adjustment and fare setting on residents’ travel in different cities in the Yangtze River Delta is becoming smaller and smaller, and the relationship between the two is becoming more collaborative.(5)Calculating the direct effect and spillover effect of railway passenger transport network change on the economic development of Yangtze River Delta.Every 1% increase in the composite accessibility level of railway passenger transport in this region will produce 0.0563% economic growth in this region and 0.3431%economic growth in the surrounding areas. The effect of the shortest time accessibility on the economy of the surrounding areas is slightly lower than that of the composite accessibility. On the whole, the improvement of regional accessibility environment has a strong spatial spillover effect on the adjacent areas.Promoting the functional level of transportation network is an important measure to propel the coordinated development of regional economy.(6)Revealing the internal mechanism of the influence of railway transportation network evolution on regional space.Regional economic and social development is the fundamental driving force for the evolution of railway passenger transport network, and it is also affected by the traffic evolution. The two are interrelated and have the circular feedback characteristics. The evolution of transportation network improves the level of regional accessibility by changing multiple distance factors and optimizing the type of passenger transport. Its impact on the flow of various factors, regional industrial development and market trade pattern is essentially spread and amplified through this basic function. The combination of the two promotes the upgrading of regional integration. The possible innovations of this study include:(1)Based on the flexible using of railway passenger network data,a calculation method of composite accessibility level is proposed, which is more in line with the actual traffic connection level between different regions. This paper defines and quantifies the substitution effect among different types of railway passenger transport network, and discusses the development process and basic characteristics of railway passenger transport network’s Transformation and upgrading.(2)Integrating the theories and methods of geography, economics and other disciplines, this paper identifies the impact of the evolution of railway passenger transport network on the traffic spatial pattern and its economic and social spatial effects in the Yangtze River Delta, and deepens the understanding of the development of regional integration in the Yangtze River Delta.(3)A more systematic and comprehensive analysis framework of the internal mechanism of the impact of railway passenger transport network evolution on regional space is constructed to further clarify the circular development process of "impact feedback re impact" between the two aspects. |
