Abstract/Summary:
This study focused specifically on investigating the relationship between counsellors' attitudes towards substance use and their commitment to their organizations or to the profession overall. This study also took into consideration how specific characteristics of employees such as gender, age, level of training, and nationality moderate this relationship. The participants of this study were 115 substance use counsellors across Canada and the United States of America.;Utilizing correlation analysis, the study first investigated the relationship between counsellors' attitudes towards substance use and their commitment to their organizations and the profession overall. The results showed no association between attitudes toward the substance use and organizational commitment. However, the findings revealed that substance use counsellors with less permissive attitudes towards substance use were more committed to the profession.;Furthermore, utilizing regression analysis, the study found that personal characteristics did not moderate the relationship between attitudes towards substance use and occupational commitment. However, there was a significant association between some of personal characteristics and attitudes, specifically level of education, nationality, and age, while no difference was found for gender.
