Abstract/Summary:
The number of CPU cores increasing each year is creating the need for highly efficient algorithms to fully take advantage of multi-threading and parallel computing capabilities, network security solutions to intrusion detection included. Challenges in network intrusion detection systems include increasing the speed of analysis of network traffic for potential threats. Utilizing different algorithm types as well as the use of multiple cores in processing of data have been an integral part of the search for solutions; however, little consideration has been given to the programming language choice. Mixed paradigm languages, that include functional components, have become more popular as they are proven to be a highly transparent means of enabling concurrency in programming. This paper investigates the rise of the mixed paradigm language F Sharp (F;Keywords: Algorithm Development, Network Security, Intrusion Detection, Concurrency, Parallel Processing, Multi-paradigm languages, F...
