Abstract/Summary:
This study was designed to examine the specific metrics managers need for success within an information technology environment. The research question was, what are the specific metrics needed to improve the performance of an IT organization? This study explored what specific metrics were most likely to lead to success in regards to a specific situation or data set that was trying to be tracked. It was centered on a more focused approach around one or two key metrics depending on the situation. The study design was qualitative; data was collected from ten study participants. Participants were being identified based upon their involvement within the information technology industry as well as their geographical location. A qualitative interview with ten semi-structured interviews helped to answer the research question. The problem addressed in this study is the specific metrics needed to improve the performance of an IT organization have not been identified (CARstea, 2014). Organizations are using too broad of a brush when selecting what metrics they should be tracking (CARstea, 2014). The study is designed to help establish or identify what metrics are key to the success of an information technology organization. The study uncovered common threads and identified key metrics and themes for success through the use of a guided interview process.
