Abstract/Summary:
This research is oriented toward developing a methodology for representing a graphical description of mechanical objects that will facilitate certain operations. These operations include: (1) Classification of these objects in accordance to some group technology scheme which facilitates retrieval or manufacturing of an object. (2) Computer-Aided Process Planning (CAPP) which utilize a coded description of the objects. (3) Creation of a CAD/CAM data base in which these objects are included and can be integrated in a convenient fashion.; Different approaches for recognition of graphical data are presented here which can be used directly for automatic generation of NC code for an engineering design and characterization of the part for process planning.
