Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a systemic human rights issue plaguing our communities. The current project seeks to add to the current knowledge base on IPV and offer a proposed group treatment manual for use with IPV victims located in women's shelters. First, a brief review of the definitions, risk factors, societal impact, and community responses to IPV will be offered. Next, use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a treatment of choice for trauma will be reviewed, along with modalities of use (group vs. individual). Finally, a manual for brief group intervention incorporating EMDR is given for use in women's shelters along with suggestions for methods of implementation and evaluation once employed. |
