Documentary film has been at work creating social change since the art form began in the 1930's. Based on the technologies of Thomas Edison and The Lumiere brothers, documentary films became a source of critical social expression.;We are now moving into the next generation of documentary; Interactive/Internet based documentaries. And along with this new genre, new technologies are needed to create these works.;Through qualitative research done using Content Analysis, The Delphi Technique and Media Analysis, this dissertation focuses on social change documentaries and their creators/producers, whose works were created to shed light on a particular issue and start a social movement for a better world.;This dissertation looks at the new tools emerging in Interactive Documentaries that allow producers to become an advocate for change through social Interactive Documentary. And, this dissertation provides a set of processes(social media, documentary and design) that can be used to develop and assess the value and effects of social change documentaries. |
