Abstract/Summary:
Heterologous model immune complexes (IC) were prepared in vitro with human serum albumin (HSA) and anti-HSA antibodies. Schistosoma-specific IC were obtained by mixing circulating anodic (CAA) and cathodic (CCA) schistosoma antigens with radiolabelled (;The HSA-IgG-anti-HSA complexes consisted of 11S (30%) and of ;Schistosome-specific IC, prepared with IgGl-anti-CAA (54-5G10-A) and CAA (10x antigen excess), consisted largely of 11S IC. IgG3-anti-CCA (54-5C10-A) and CCA produced 6-7S IC and ;In conclusion, the results show that in mice infected with S. mansoni the clearance of certain IC is impaired, due to a decreased uptake of the injected IC by the liver. This impaired clearance could result in an enhanced glomerular deposition of circulating IC and contribute to the genesis of glomerulopathies in schistosomiasis.
