This work investigates packaging management from three different perspectives. An integrated approach consisting of a case study at an end use company and two different surveys are used. The study explores key issues relevant to the packaging industry, studies corporate packaging management organization, and seeks to determine what constitutes "packaging engineering.";Based on the results of this study it is shown that effective packaging management organizations can influence the success of the company, and government regulations, disposability, and solid waste are judged by industry to be the most important issues, both now and in the future. In addition, the term packaging engineering was found to be generic in nature. By researching packaging management in this way new and relevant information is added to the literature and perhaps others will be stimulated to continue research in these important areas.
