Abstract/Summary:
The wireless charging of electric vehicles is an essential step for proliferation of electric vehicles, especially in an urban environment. This technology requires dedicated power electronic converters to provide a proper control and maximize the efficiency. In this dissertation, an analysis of a wireless power link is performed and design goals for a new inverter are established. The new topology of a multiphase resonant inverter with a common resonant circuit is proposed. Unique control strategies for the new inverter are developed and analyzed. A phase-frequency hybrid control strategy is proposed as an alternative to traditional control methods. Analytical equations are derived for the introduced concepts. Finally, the proposed topology and the hybrid control strategy are verified with simulations and experiments. A 4 kW laboratory prototype of the inverter has been built for the experimental verification.
